Description
The retiarius webspinner is a large spider distributed both on frijol isle as well as the main islands, a specialist on hunting dragonflies. They get their name from the gladiators who fought with spears and nets. Being diurnal, it positions itself in open locations with sufficient nearby shelter, so that it can retreat to shade should it become overheated. They are pale to reflect the ambient sunlight and are thus able to handle hotter temperatures. They can also use their web as a parasol to block the sun if needed. Dragonflies are detected through not only scent, but vibrations sensed through the slits and hairs distributed over their body. Thus, they are very fluffy and sensitive to any slightest sound. They have incredible reflexes and can cast their net very fast, snagging a passing dragonfly. They then track the vibrations of the struggling, fallen prey through the ground, and can run very quickly to reach it before anything else does.
