The snowmink is the largest of the minks {although still small}, inhabiting not only the northern sides of the islands but also ranging across the oceanic icepacks, having ranges massive by comparison to other icelandic minks. They are more curious, less secretive, and are about the most aggressive species. As they spend much of their time exposed to predation, they are less likely to run away and more likely to confront their predators with hissing and mobbing. They are slower at running and move at an ambling pace, however they are excellent swimmers and hunt in the waters just as often as on the ice. They wait for he dead of night before diving in to capture schooling squids and lanternfish, even occasionally swarming a young porbeagle when food is scarce. They are more likely to return to the islands during breeding season, feeding primarily on shrewbats and stray crabs at that time. They make their homes in small caves or in tunnels under the snow, which contains a nesting chamber for the lead female's current kits {either one or two offspring per litter.} It is often bitterly cold and snowy, so they have thick double coats of pale white, silver, or blue grey fur, and are stockier than the other icelandic minks.
