Another portfolio piece for college! c:This was a massive piece and my original goal was do a scenery study (my first ever scenery actually...). I ended up adding more to it and here is the finished product! This was great practice and lots of fun.
I wish I had more time to add more to it and even do a "death" version of this. Maybe someday~

Yes this was meant to be submitted yesterday...an emergency sorta happened with my cat and I had to postpone it. Sorry guys! My cat is doing okay now so I think we should be fine from here on out!

First of all, as far as your original idea goes: This is as an amazing scenery study.
There is a very nice sense of depth in the painting and the amount of details in certain places really leads the eye towards the water area. The colours are very vibrant and the scenery really pulls you in.
The character itself looks amazing as well! Good anatomy, pose and the fur details are all pleasing to the eye and nice to look at! The composition is nice as well.
The character and scenery together is where we run into some problems. The character doesn't look like it's a part of the painting.
The strong light in the picture doesn't reflect on the character and the contrast of the character against the background is weak if you check the values in black and white. You definitely managed to amend this situation with the use of colours and clever composition and despite this the wolf does is readable and does pop from the picture.
Placing the wolf in the shadows that the rest of the foreground seems to be in could have added a lot of atmosphere into the picture.
The view of the scenery looks like it's being seen by someone but the character is posing and looking in completely another direction. That makes it really hard for the viewer to connect with the character and takes away from the atmosphere and the impact of the picture. I feel like making the character face towards the scenery would have placed the character into the scene with us and made it that much deeper and alive.
All in all you really achieved your goal with the scenery and the character looks phenomenal! The overall result looks amazing too but it doesn't as together as it could and the picture has some unused potential that, when realised, could bump it up to the next level. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s⦠" width="15" height="15" alt="

Hey there! I think your work is beautiful!. In this one for example I like the tones you use to represent the rays of sunshine. It gives the drawing a special glow. Also the use Β of blue and purple don't allow for any dull shadow. Everything about it is very beautiful. Don't even get me started in the details of the fur of that wolf. Amazing! Good Job.Β
