Description
WOW! Finished. Finally. Unless I think of some other tweaks to do.Concrit on this would be greatly appreciated. I'm still learning a lot about the way light and shadow fall on forms, and I think this is the first time I've tried to incorporate reflective light into a piece. Also, I'm still trying to settle on a style of drawing--one day hopefully I won't rely so much on references. Blah. Blah!

Thank you! I'm glad you like it. I hope to eventually do matching ones for all the Doctors and their companions.

Excellent job of catching the Doctor and Rose. The title threw me off (David Tennant being the 10th Doctor), but I recognized the thumbnail immediately as them.
Very good work.
Keep it up.

Thanks a bunch. I still think it could use some work (his nose and hair were a total pain) but for what its worth, and for the time at which I did, this, I'm pretty pleased!

I quite like the sense of action in this piece, but I think if the Doctor had a big cheesey grin and his right hand (our right) was less chunky and more detailed, this picture would look quite a bit better.

You're right about the cheesy grin--I think I erased his mouth so many times I almost wore a hole through the paper. It, his nose and his hair really were a pain!
I won't be changing this piece (it's quite old, though the most recent drawing I've done! >_> but I hope to incorporate the crit I receive here into future art.
Thanks a bunch!

I don't think that your dependency on references will ever go away...and I personally wouldn't worry so much about style either...it just happens as you continue to draw! Haha! I really like the overall composition, coloring and lighting! Your anatomy is very good, but the guy's right leg is short unnaturally. But once again I really like the coloring. That pin-strip suit is primo! ^_^

Hehe thanks! I know I'll probably always use references, I just hope to become less dependent on them as time goes by.
I'm pretty proud of the pinstripes.

I like the dymanic poses in this pic and I totally want the docΒ΄s sneakers!!!
Ehem, now to the difficult part.
Very nice and soft colouring and good use of reflective light. The only thing, that has to be worked on are the shadows and highlights, as you have said yourself. Just too bad there isnΒ΄t a bigger version to look at, analyzing would have been easier. Judging from the shadows, the light source comes from the left. This pic doesnΒ΄t need major changes, I suggest you should try to makes the shadows on the doc darker. Not the whole, but only the parts, which defifnitely are hidden from the light. The shadows on Rose seem stronger to me, thatΒ΄s why I wouldnΒ΄t touch her yet. ItΒ΄ll depend on how darker shadows will change Ten.
There is also the possibility to add white or light coloured highlights buuut I donΒ΄t think they would be needed in this particular situation. Actually, I wouldnΒ΄t change this picture at all and try including changes into the next one.
Nice work! ;D

Thanks very much! I agree with pretty much everything you said--and I'm pretty comfortable with how this picture is, and anything I've learned in the interim (which is very little, I hardly have time to do art!) I'll try and incorporate into the next piece I do.
Belatedly, I feel a little stupid for posting such an old work for concrit, but honestly it's the most recent thing I've done in that style of art.

Langepon In reply to eclecticmuses [2009-10-21 01:18:31 +0000 UTC]
Yup, thatΒ΄s the spirit! Even if you donΒ΄t have time, you can still think about how to improve yourself and for that purpose itΒ΄s totally fine to post older works. (honestly, I have spent a minute starring at the date and thinking XD )
To be honest, just because this is an old art, IΒ΄m interested in how the new ones would look. Even absence from drawing makes changes.

I really like this - great movement in here. The coat billowing is a great touch.
The best part is the perspective - the things farther away are smaller! You're quite talented, in my opinion. Especially the shoes, they might not have been that difficult, I don't know, but they look really cool.

eclecticmuses In reply to jonathoncomfortreed [2009-10-21 00:54:51 +0000 UTC]
Thanks very much. The shoes actually were not that hard. And I do wish this picture more resembled my actual style--I used references very heavily for this piece (especially different art styles) to try something new. I hope that doesn't make me a cheater of sorts. D:

That looks very dynamic and nicely shaded. I commend you!
The only thing that stood out for me where the hands. I think the girl's hand on the right is a little too big. The hands in the middle are a tad big and his hand on the left a tad small in comparison. This is a very subjective impression, tho.

I think I get what you're getting at re: the hands. Looking back on it now the hands in the middle bug me, but foreshortening is not my strong point at all! I finally decided to let it be as it was.
