Description
"Daedalus told his beloved son exactly where to fly:halfway between the sun and the water, no higher and lower.
But Icarus was a dreamer. He ignored those warnings.
He flew too close to the sun, and the waxed wings tragically melted. Icarus plunged into the sea...and that's how he ended his life
TwT A final project illustration for World Mythology class. Icarus died because his own ignorance...or maybe desire (it depends on each person's view, I guess)...it's true. But is that because the brightness of the sun was too tempting for him? I'm just curious >D

I wonder, have you ever seen the Cirque du Soleil version of his story? It's a little strange at times, but still very beautiful 8D

THIS IS ABSOLUTLY GORGEOUS!! Oh yeah i checked out Jim Henson's The Storyteller and it was good. It had Greek Myths on it and this was the first story. This is my favorite Greek story anyway, but when i saw it, i loved it even more. This just adds to the love. I guess I would have to critique only two things, that i can find, but they're in reason... Anywayz, one, why is his left wing shorter than his right, the one thats stretched out? It just seems shorter, though that's probably because the sun melted it and it lost many feathers, right? and the second is why does he have feathers on his bottom cloth? Did you just add that? or was that part of the original design? So i guess they're questions not critique... sorry!

I'd like to think that Icaras, was not drunk on power, but wonder and amazment. In the time he was flying he probably lived more than anyone ever has. But he payed the price for it. And I don't know if it was worth the price he had to pay, anyway great job, this is a really nice painting.

On personal reflection, the look on his face is one not of fear but of such tender yearning. The colours reflect some of Breughel's painting too. I love the way it looks as if it's painted onto stone as well, nice work.

Hmmm...I dunno...I think if I could fly...I'd probably want to fly higher and higher too...I guess the moral of the story could also be that people always want more and more. Is the higher you get the more freer you feel? ;o;

Wow, such a dynamic, beautiful pose! I love the colors and this picture is seriously dramatic, with the color choices, the angle and the pose. It's lovely, amazing artwork!
Hmmm...you'd think that the sun would be too bright to look at and I'm sure that wouldn't be very pleasant to stare at very long. It's somewhat tragic...I remember this story. The father and son were captured and the father crafted this genius escape plan, to create their own wings and fly away. They finally made the wings and practiced flying with them and then once they actually were flying home, the foolish son wouldn't listen to his father. I feel so sorry for the dad, he had to watch his son die and is now alone
