Description "Daedalus told his beloved son exactly where to fly:

halfway between the sun and the water, no higher and lower.

But Icarus was a dreamer. He ignored those warnings.
He flew too close to the sun, and the waxed wings tragically melted. Icarus plunged into the sea...and that's how he ended his life

TwT A final project illustration for World Mythology class. Icarus died because his own ignorance...or maybe desire (it depends on each person's view, I guess)...it's true. But is that because the brightness of the sun was too tempting for him? I'm just curious >D

One of my favorite storys ='3

Its sad, his father could only watch as his son plunged into the sea and was soon eaten by sharks.

This was always one of my favorite stories.. You did a beautiful job. I mostly love the expression of helplessness on his face.

the shadowed hand appears to be separate from the body. the high tone in the breast and that of the base of the arm is so high it gives this illusion.

I absolutely adore the richness and detail in this piece. You captured that sence of longing in his face perfectly. =]

I think that his back would be a little more arched, however...gravity + wind resistance = a bitch.

I wonder how they ever expected wings loaded with thick, heavy wax would fly in the first place really nice colouring, especially with how his far-arm appears rather ghostly among the wings

Oh man, I'm a sucker for Greek mythology. This was one of my favorite stories.

I think it was partly desire to fly high into the heavens (like the gods I guess)...or maybe, since he was assumedly a child at the time, the words of his father just went through one ear and out the other. Lack of obedience. :/

Wonderful artwork. The blending of colors is wonderful, and his facial expression really sends the message through.

lol i dont think he wanted to touch the sun. from what i've heard, he wanted to fly higher than the sun, and be the highest in the sky, or just beat the sun. sadly he died XD. he should learn astronomy, he cant be higher than the sun, the sun isn't in earth's atmosphere, its i space
lol if he was temtped by the sun, then
Icarus: WHEE DADDY!
Daedalus: SON! GET DOWN HERE!
Icarus: Pretty sun... I wanna pet the sun...*flies and tries to pet it*
Icarus: GEH! HOT! Wings break apart, and he dies
Daedalus: NOO! DAMN YOU SUN!! AND SON!!

If I recall correctly--he wanted to fly higher, because the higher he got, the more he looked like a God or the more he confused himself with a god. So I am inclined to think it was because of his arrogant desires and maybe a hint of ignorance. Either way, great picture. I love Greek Mythology--I have a whole booklet of stories of myths. Good stuff.

Once again, a very good picture.

I don't think that it was his ignorance, but rather his own desire to enjoy things to the fullest. Maybe even his curiosity.

Its a lovely myth, one I enjoy reading time and time again.

You did a lovely job on it Ecth.
