Description
"Daedalus told his beloved son exactly where to fly:halfway between the sun and the water, no higher and lower.
But Icarus was a dreamer. He ignored those warnings.
He flew too close to the sun, and the waxed wings tragically melted. Icarus plunged into the sea...and that's how he ended his life
TwT A final project illustration for World Mythology class. Icarus died because his own ignorance...or maybe desire (it depends on each person's view, I guess)...it's true. But is that because the brightness of the sun was too tempting for him? I'm just curious >D

His expression and that hand reaching for the sky are just so tragic. Well done. I hope you got an A.

I think it was because he wanted to fly closer to the sun. I forgot. I need to find that mythology book that my 4th grade teacher gave me XD I re-read that book so many times.
I think it was both his ignorance and desire. He wanted to fly closer to the son and he also ignored his father's warning. I think in the book I read the story from Icarus enjoyed the sun's warmth or something and he wanted to fly higher or something cause it felt good...being the dreamer he is and stuff...O_o Yeah, I don't really remember.
On to the picture! I think you did a great job capturing Icarus' expression and I like how his right hand is outreached. I always imagined him outstretching his hand towards the sun when he was falling...or it said that in the story...I'm not sure >.>;

So freaking cool. Reminds me of this one song I like based on the story of Icarus... It's called "The Melting Point of Wax" and it's by Thrice. Man. This piece is fantastic.

I find it ironic that I just found this after typing something on MSN about icarus
"Some days I wish I had wings like Icarus so I can fly into the sun, just for the freedom of falling into the sea"
By the way, its BEAUTIFUL

i really love the colors and the texture - like it was done in chalk on a side walk- but i think you didn't quite capture the sense that he's falling. i think it's the body posture, perhaps the spine should be curved more?

This really is lovely. I like the color--it's deep, lovely, and dramatic. But I think what absolutely makes this piece is his hand silhouetted against his wing. It's a wonderful touch!

Wow, four hours ago before I went to sleep I had a conversation about this... I should have chekked deviantart art and realized it was fate Gorgeous work on the feathers and you know, the whole thing
I adore the background light transition and the way his legs create such wonderful terrifying movement.

Awesome piece except for one thing if you dont mind me pointing it out. I dont know if its just me, but when i looked at his feet, it seemed like the foot w ith the toes pointing up had no heel. It kinda looked like a very curved and smooth foot. Maybe if the heel was a little brighter it'd be more noticeable?
