"Daedalus told his beloved son exactly where to fly:halfway between the sun and the water, no higher and lower.
But Icarus was a dreamer. He ignored those warnings.
He flew too close to the sun, and the waxed wings tragically melted. Icarus plunged into the sea...and that's how he ended his life
TwT A final project illustration for World Mythology class. Icarus died because his own ignorance...or maybe desire (it depends on each person's view, I guess)...it's true. But is that because the brightness of the sun was too tempting for him? I'm just curious >D

actually, this is one of my favorite myths!
from what I've gathered together, Icarus was meant to represent "new art" while Daedalus was the steady "old art." Icarus' passions took him too high and too low and so he destroyed himself. the sun melted the wax and the proximity to water widened the cracks and caused the wax to break. also, as the wax was not very strong, all the movements he made caused it to weaken until it was too late.

You should read the story, i translated it a few months back and there you see how his own father actually caused his sons death, because it was all his faulth and he dragged his son with him into trouble...

This has got to be my favourite Greek myth ever (and that's saying something--I'm completely obsessed with Greek mythology and history, lol). Nice job. I love the colours and the expression on his face is perfect.

I adore the story of Icarus because it is so sad. If I remember the version that was told to me it was because Icarus had never seen the sun and so he wanted to see it better so he flew above the clouds where his wings melted and he plummeted to the sea.
It always made me sad because I always interpreted it as his curiousity/his dreams that led to his death. But I digress.
This has to be one of the best pictures I have seen of Icarus in a while, very nicely done. I love the shock on his face as he plummets

I always thought he fell because he enjoyed flying so much, and he just soared off into the heat of the sun. I know I would go nuts if I suddenly had the ability to fly

That's beautiful, I love the shadowing - epec on the arm behind the wing. His face is gorgeous and the movement works well. The light blue lighting adds atmosphere and a sort of magical element to it

That is gorgeous! The colors are so beautiful, like the scenery is just blurring right past him. Or, he is blurring right past the scenery. More the latter. You drew him completely perfect, I love the skin, face, and hair. The wings are awesome.
