The Conquerors are an extraterrestrial species featured in my science fiction novella The Magellanic Journey. They are native to an unnamed planet that is now a dead world because its star has evolved into a red giant.

They are 2 meters tall, have a somewhat hammerhead shark-like head with four black eyes that blink independently and vertically, and an almost invisible mouth. They have greenish skin, and their bodies seem to have arms and legs on inverted places when compared to a human body, with a small tail between their lower limbs. They are much stronger than humans, highly aggressive and can easily beat a healthy adult with their bare limbs. Without their armor, however, they are vulnerable to simple rifle bullets and can be killed by them. They have purple blood.

The Conquerors are so called because they once ruled over an empire comprised of many planetary systems in the Large Magellanic Cloud, their home galaxy. Therefore, they were an extremely advanced spacefaring civilization, their technology being far superior to the human technology of the 24th century, where the story is set. They were able to create wormholes and spaceships that can warp spacetime, use dark matter to manipulate gravity, build light armors that can repel projectiles, build cryogenic chambers and autonomous mining machines, etc.

160,000 years ago, the Conquerors abandoned their planet, which was becoming uninhabitable due to the evolution of its star, and created a net of wormholes to conquer other planets in the galaxy. Wars were eventually fought among themselves, and their empire collapsed a few thousand years afterwards, when humans were still in the Stone Age. The remains of their empire are still found across the galaxy. A few individuals are technically still alive, but they cannot survive for more than a few hours outside their cryogenic chambers since their genome is extremely damaged due to exposure to a special radiation used in their wars. Therefore, the Conquerors are virtually extinct.

Damn, despite their aggressive nature, it sounds like humanity could have learned much from them... But then again, chances are they would have simply conquered us as well. Better to just learn what we can about their technology and let them remain extinct.

(...But are they TRULY extinct...?)

Read the story. I uploaded it here on Deviantart (though I would prefer that you buy it on Amazon ). Humans do learn something from them. I am currently writing a sequel where this knowledge is further used.

They are virtually extinct. A few individuals are alive but "sleeping". They can wake up, but they are all terminally ill and can't live for long outside their chambers. Even with their technology, they were unable to cure themselves and effectively save their species.
