For me, the scariest deathclaw encounter was with a deathclaw mother one night @ quarry junction. After several shots with an anti-mat rifle, her health bar disappears (and this was one of those kills that didn't reward me with cinematic) so after I take care of her remaining offspring, I got to check the corpses to see if there's anything on them. Just one problem....I could not find the deathclaw mother's corpse ANYWHERE! So i spent over 30 minutes creeping around the place out of fear that she somehow survived and that I would have a bersek mama on my hands...
In all honesty though, deathclaws (of any kind) don't scare me the most out of all the creatures of the Mojave (they only rank around 4th place). Truly, the most horrifying creature of the desert is the dreaded C-...*gulp*....Cazador! (especially the legendary one)Β

The deathclaws that scare me are the Mother, Alpha Male, and the Legendary Deathclaw. However I was most scarred when i first encountered Rawr, that was a 100% Holy Fucking Shit!!!!!!!!!!!!"
That was the first time I ever encountered a Legendary Deathclaw and Rawr's presentation was just heart stopping he's huge!!!

Well with Raw I used a LAER with the mods added on, it killed Rawr pretty fast but my character had 100 in energy weapons.

i mostly use my anti material rifle against them with any kind of mg bullets i had. in fallout 3 i used my dart guns to make them easy targets i never ever got close to a deathclaw unless it's crippled

The only unarmed weapon I used on a Deathclaw was The Superheated Saturnite Fist, which if you have a high unarmed skill and the piercing strike perk, worked well on a Deathclaw, it killed them pretty quickly. Also something satisfying about killing a Deathclaw with a Powerfist.

Oh aye, I don't go after deathclaws with flimsy weapons, I take weapons I know I can hill them with. Also Rex is pretty handy to have around Deathclaws, his knock down attack proves very useful.

In truth my first encounter with a deathclaw scared the hell out of me. It was so shocking to see a bipedal hunched back lizard with devil horns and 3 ft steak knives. After a while I started expirementing the best ways to face them. recently I tried to see how me with a low unarmed skill would face them with my two step goodbye ballistic fist. I tried it on a lone pack of deathclaws. I did surprisingly well despite having to use alot of my stimpacks. I tried the holorifle and much more. I soon concluded that the best thing to do is to fight them at range. Whether your using the anti material, or the Holorifle or the ycs186. They will meet their doom soon. If they get to close. Two step goodbye, and Gehena are best used if you have a high melee and unarmed skill.

Holorifle Gaus Rifle YCS186 are only good if you have the relevant energy weapon perks are only good. The LAER is good at closer range with the weapon mods it will even cut right through RAWR and the legendary Deathclaw I tried it, that gun becomes a real efrfective weapon.
The Anti Matrial Rifle is only good at range, upclose it's useless against deathclaws pretty much too damn slow.
The Saturnite Super Heated Powerfist with a high unarmed Skill is good against pretty much everything that thing is just a damn good weapon.

1. Not true. All I did was invest in my energy weapons skill and the YSC 186 and Holorifle became clear that they are truly effective weapons. As for the LAER, because I'm a fool to my self didn't go for it. I instead went for Elis' jurry rigged LAER.
2. Yes but I am a sniper at heart. So I always go for range when it's possible. Unfortunately the topography of the Mojave makes it difficult to be a sniper. I wish the gaming mechanics were different.
3. The Saturnite Super Heated Powerfist was a good fist, but I'd rather use the Two Step Goodbye. It's a unique ballistic fist, and is insanely powerful. Take note it got it's name for a reason. After everytime you kill some one with it, so long as there is an enemy nearby the one you killed the fist plants a detenator on the enemy. Hoping it shall do splash damage. I found this out the hard way and crippled my limps alot.

Well that's a fast way to the Tough Guy perk.
The super heated Saturnite fist is also free.
I simply found the Meltdown perk gave the Long range scoped energy weapons like the Gaus Rifle and the Holorifle a much neded punch, especially against Deathclaws.
