I want to fly a peruvian one day. They're super neat!!! Plus I like how they are smaller than the US hh.

Yea, they are so tiny! I have had the chance to meet two, both males. They are really neat, but pretty crabby. Both only like one specific person. They are way more high strung like accipiters. But holy CRAP are they fast!! I tried getting in flight photos of this one, but the little sucker was too quick for me to get anything good!

He's so different from the normal Harris Hawk. The spangle pattern on his feathers is pretty.

Yea, he is a lot smaller than a typical male Harris Hawk too. He is way more high strung. I have only seen male Peruvians, I'd love to see a female sometime.

He's not worried. It's just the angle of the photo. These guys can't change their facial expressions. He was actually really excited because it was his turn to fly.

He looks worried. Was he bad?
That joke got me thinking, do birds emote? I'm pretty sure that almost any facial expressions I see in birds is not what they're really feeling, but how would a bird look worried, angry, happy, or playful? What can you tell me about bird body language?

Ha, he's not worried. They can't change their facial expressions. It's pretty much all to do with the angle of the photo and the body language of the bird. They express anger, displeasure, excitement differently depending on the individual bird. But usually feathers all fluffed out and a foot tucked up means content and relaxing. Head bowed down and looking at something sideways can sometimes be a hawks way of glaring at someone. Sometimes they will charge at you if they are particularly upset and they might even scream at you. If they are excited they might make small vocalizations and stretch out their neck so they can see something better, and they might lightly flap their wings. There's too much to describe, and all birds show things a little differently. I hope this helped a little

Tyr has some movement just in front of his eyes and around the ridge. Not much, it took me months to notice it. But he can sorta crinkle the bristles around his eyes. And he will raise his lower eyelids and squint as well to express things. Definitely they are a lot easier to read for those of us who see them daily and get to know them and their body language.

It's all so minute that the average person would never notice it. I definitely agree their eyes can be pretty expressive though!
