My cat used to sleep on the bookcase after I hid her feeding dish on it, so she couldn`t reach it any longer. After she got sterilized she gained a lot of weight and I had to put her on a diet. She learned pretty fast to climb on that shelf. From that moment on she preferred (for a while) to sleep on it.
