Description

On the 56th issue of Nintendo Power , the comic Mario vs. Wario: The Birthday Bash was published. I remembered thinking that it was neat after watching a video that goes through the comic, especially the expressions of the characters.
After a while, I decided to redraw certain scenes that replaces the characters. So instead of Mario vs. Wario, it’s now Luigi vs. Waluigi, with all the antics that come with the original actions of the characters. Of course, Luigi in the original is replaced with Mario, who is impartial about the conflict and won out in the end. In fact, I think it’s a win-win because not only did Mario win out in the end, there’s more Waluigi and there can never be enough Waluigi.
Instead of colour, everything is ink-drawn, well digitally that is. Meaning that any sort of shading is done like an inked paper, so no gradual shading but lines that simulate shading. This also means that where there were originally no lines, some lines were added to convey certain moods.
Something I’ve noticed is how the characters have a more simplistic style. For example, the style in the Nintendo Power comics have four fingered hands as the standard, when even the Mario animated series have Mario, Luigi, and the Princess with five fingers and the Valiant Mario comics having five-fingered hands for the characters usually (so King Koopa still have four fingered hands like his original counterpart). That’s why the characters have four fingered hands in these images, since the original comic portrayed them as such. I imagine that with the oversight now, the loose style in Super Mario Adventures can’t be done again.
Overall, I liked the results. I hope it’s enjoyable for you too!
