All the guys preventing Frisk from doing whatever the frick they want.
First of all, we have Comic Sans Undertale Gaster "The Skeleton" MS (Master of Science) well known for dunking on and giving bad times.
Then we have Chara "Screw this world and humanity" Dreemurr. Thinks they can punish you for the consequences of your actions while they are as rotten as you are at the end of the Genocide...
How can we forget the Mystery Man aka Dr. W. D. Gaster, Goop Dad, Dadster, Wing Dings, etc... He actually never did anything... YET!
And last but not least, your best friend. Flowey the assh... Flower / Asriel Dreemurr. He likes to toy with the life of people just for his own amusement. He doesn't even care about his parents.
These guys are a pain for any time traveler that just wants to enjoy themselves.

Gaster being mysterious and nonexistent giving some sense of dread/"evil" (mad scientist? unlucky? transformed into an all powerful being. Or one of my favorite ideas, being in a sense the "True Genocide Final Boss"/ why chara is willing to remake the world)
Chara in the sense of how it seems being "literal demon child" "the narrator" or "simply wanted to free the monsters albeit in a violent way" are all seemingly acceptable theoriesΒ

hmm well now, if Sans and Gaster were enemies I think there backstory would have been something like this.
Sans would be the one in charged of keeping Gaster from getting out of the void. So in my head cannon he'd probably be the one who pushed Gaster into the core from the start, because Gaster was crazy and wanted to do something crazy. And if/when Gaster does get out of the void Sans would be the one to fight the mad scientist.
Gaster would a mad scientist like yours, and observe the underground using the Gaster followers kind of like a second eye i guess. Gaster would always be looking for a way out of the void so what would happen is that he would sometimes go meet up with frisk and Chara (mainly chara) in the save screen so he can strike up a deal with them (probably something to help him out of the void). While doing this he would want revenge on Sans for pushing him in the core or something. Idk XD
lol I dont think I answered your question correctly tho, I think I just pitched a idea for a new timeline instead... a really really unfinished timeline story

Gaster forcing chara to remake the world and bargaining for frisk's soul.. wow, now that is something that I can actually see happen in Undertale. It would explain so much about chara's motives pretty well!
