Description Oil paint on canvas 23"x30"

This is now for sale! [link]

Really this picture does it no justice..One of my favorite things about painting is working with the texture and brush-strokes..and this doesn't really show off either, unfortunately.

It is about my views of social stereotypes on women and giving birth/ being a mother. This stereotype does not discriminate and it effects all races..The stereotype is that a woman's ultimate goal/ purpose in life, is to procreate and that it is the highest form of happiness a woman could ever hope to possibly achieve. So, we are somewhat of an assembly line...We are born, we grow up, we give birth, etc..

It is inevitable that a woman should give birth...
and it is shocking and insulting when a woman wishes to remain childless. I have encountered countless people in my life with this thought process.

Motherhood can be a beautiful thing, but SO MANY young women are told either blatantly, or covertly, that this is their ultimate fate..their purpose for living.

If any man actually thinks that women are just born to have babies and are for entertainment, they're just uneducated.

i agree with you fully and completely. i've heard the same things and i love the way you portraied the idea. i am one who has gotten sick of the "its your purpose to have kids". its a terrible notion. i believe in free-will to have children not its fate

exactly! I'm so glad that you can relate to this..
I believe it's slowly starting to become more about freewill
and less about someones ultimate purpose in living..
So maybe generations from now having children will be what it
should be....a choice and a blessing rather than
a last resort or a means of income/job/investment.

so very true. i hope desprately that the newer generations will not drill the "it's fate" idea into their children's heads as their mothers and others did. i believe that is moraly wrong to have kids as means of income/job/investment. ick XP it's harmful on the kids

I don't totally agree, Some people genuinely WANT to be mothers. I love the piece but I think that it's a bit to broad a topic to apply to every young woman who aspires to have children.

oh, I definitely agree.
as I said: "Motherhood can be a beautiful thing,

their purpose for living."

Motherhood CAN be a very beautiful thing- as I've encountered..
however, I also cannot ignore the amount of sexism I've also encountered...
being a parent should be an ultimate choice...not a last option.
I'm not sure how it is elsewhere in the world, but here in Appalachia...
discrimination is pretty prominent.
Please see my sequential series about entering the world as a young adult, and young parents..
this piece I think you would especially be interested in: [link] it's called "Hope, Responsibility"
and thank you for your thoughts!

FANTASTIC!!!!
love the movement and color, especially how you balanced out the sides with complimentaries on one and then cool, darker shades on the other. Definatly a new fave

(yay pro-choice!)

This is wonderful. I love the imagery. It's not so forward but it's not too abstract where you have no idea what's going on. The message is painted right on.
Good job~<3

I love this, and I love your point of view. I couldn't agree more, being a woman who doesn't want children. Everyone tells me I WILL change my mind.

It's a beautiful painting, besides!

thank you!
ya..i have people tell me all the time that I'll change my mind....
and even if one day.....when the moon is full and zombies plague the face of the earth.....I decide to have children...
it's not anyone's place to decide, but mine.
not even muh man's.

and yes...I am pro-choice. but not if it's too far along -_-;;

It's ridiculous that so much emphasis is placed on a fetus's life that the woman's rights are so easily forgotten...

I agree with it all. Sometimes it seems as though we are constantly being told that we don't have the capacity to make decisions for ourselves, specifically regarding childbirth. The world has a long way to go.
