Description
Here's a little step by step of a painting I finished recently. Some extra notes:
1. Good value structure is often the most important part of any painting. I always do extensive studies with grayscale mediums. Doing these in a small scale enables one to focus on the structure and not getting bogged down in details. The discussion on what can be regarded as a "good value structure" is a complex one, but rule of a thumb is that if your picture reads well as a small & grayscale it is probably good.
2. I always do an under drawing these days for pieces I want to finish. It is easier to correct composition/anatomy/etc mistakes when in pencil phase (and line in general) than when you have already started painting.
3. Start big, end small, be it a drawing, painting or a study.
