Description

Guess who just spent DAYS on a stupid joke that makes her giggle like a moron ? DAT GIRL

Anyway, we just received a new vacuum cleaner. And, okay I may be a tad obsessed with anything DWD lately ... BUT if you don’t see a cartoon weapon when looking at this then you’re lying to yourself and there’s nothing I can do for you. (I mean it’s PURPLE !!)

Now was it worth the effort ? ... Well, I DID giggle a lot while working on this ! Because it’s totally something I do on a daily basis I imagine Drake would do to spice up his “ordinary citizen” life.

I swear, Drake's expression at the window panels practically reads, 'for the most amusement, please grab and squeeze both corners of Drake's cheeks!'

So much for bare necessities.... at least DW's happy with his new Dyson Vacuum Cleaner (very much what it resembles in the commercials I see in Australia)! And the 'Dad, no/Dad, yes' reminded me of a certain Simpsons moment involving, 'Ooooo, fire kebab!'

Oh-ho no. This was definitely funny. Surprised at the vacuum's design. Now I want one. What gets me is Drake's face smashed against the glass

The more I look at it... Drake in panel 5-7 is even better. Such a pleasure to see all your art - it's a good thing that you've been bitten by the DWD-flee as well. By the way, have you seen the series as a child or are you completely new to it?

What about you ? Did you watch it as a kid ? (sorry it took me so long to ask back, I feel super rude right now ^^')

SplatterPhoenix In reply to Eeryl [2019-07-15 11:59:40 +0000 UTC]

Gee, don't you worry! I'm such a slow responder here on deviantART lately, with my kid and all. So, yep, I'm one of those old-schoolers who were privileged to see the show on its original run as a child. Which means, the show came out in 1991, but it was first aired in Germany in 1992. That's when I watched it. It was part of a programme called "Disney Club" and I still vividly remember the commenter introducing the new show. And I loved it. Not as much as Gummi Bears in those days, but still... I got back into it in 2006 while on an exchange in Sweden. I fell in love with the original version of the show then, even though I have to admit that the German synchronisation was amazingly well done. And that was also when I was introduced to the Darkwing Duck-fandom here on deviantART and elsewhere. Such a lovely, open-minded bunch of people.

XD I had a blast working on that : those characters have such expressive features and lovable design, it's always fun to mess around with them.

Thank you so much for your support, here and on Tumblr (btw : heroic ugly sweater Drake is best Drake ). I'm not a professional yet but I'm working hard towards it !

I actually started watching because of the latest episode of the Ducktales reboot sooo ... it's been about a month I'd say ? (I'm not entirely done watching the original show yet ^^'). I don't think it's ever been really popular in France, especially while I was growing up (I arrived too late ... A shame, really.)

You know what, I'm so happy they made that episode and that brought you to watch the original show. You were born to draw ducks. Believe me.

It must have been great to experience it while it was current ! Granted, the hype is coming back a little with the Ducktales reboot, and I'm willing to give this new version a chance of course, but it'll never really be Darkwing Duck, if you know what I mean ^^ I hope the attention the old show is getting again will help to bring back the comics !
But I'm really glad they made that episode too ! Without it, I would never have watched the orginal, or heard about Tad Stones, Jim Cummings (seriously, this man is amazing !) and plenty of incredibly talented artists (who worked on the show back then or do fanarts today), or meet you and all the others awesome Darkwing Duck fans ! You're awesome

SplatterPhoenix In reply to Eeryl [2019-08-05 21:22:42 +0000 UTC]

Aww, that's really kind of you to say. Well, the other DW-fans and I have been hanging out on deviantART and on other platforms around the Internet for more than a decade... (I officially joined the online fandom in 2007 and was more than surprised to meet so many people of my age who still adored that show like I did and still do.), drawing ducks and having all our OCs living together in perfect harmony. Most OCs are abandoned by now, because their owners have moved on, but I still remember them fondly.

I went to New York Comic Con twice, yet I never met Tad Stones or Jim Cummings, but I'm lucky enough to have interacted with them online every now and then. I met James Silvani and Aaron Sparrow, who both worked on the DWD-comics. It was actually James who asked me to come to New York and meet him in person, because he used my art as a reference for the comics and thus knew my website. There weren't any proper model sheets from the show anymore, thus he had to use fanart (i.e. mine) to draw the comics. I was extremely flattered of course and I pretend - every now and then - that I see some of my artworks particularly in the first issues of the comics.

Yes, I've seem your OC drawn by other people (and their own OCs too), it sounds like a great community !
Who knows ? Maybe some of them will come back ? Now with the reboot and all ...

You've ... You've interacted with them ? AND you've helped in the making of the comics ?! WOW *o*

I know I'm super late, but CONGRATULATIONS !! I'm so happy for you, it must have been AMAZING !! I'll be reading the comics with brand new eyes now !
It's no wonder he looked through your work for inspiration though : your art is one of the closest to the original show's style I've seen on the Internet !

This is a very fun comic! And what an amazing attention to details! You not only mastered drawing these characters accurately but also made a really cool bg of the shopping centre and additional characters (like, for example, that fox checking his phone). Goslyn looks very cute! I haven't seen this cartoon in ages, but I do remember that the girl and her relationship with her dad was one of the funnest things about the show. Nice to see their new adventures!

Thank you so much, I spent quite some time on it ! I usually don't do detailed backgrounds or even background characters, so I struggled a bit with it but I'm happy with how it turned out ^^
She's the best ! The father/daughter relationship in this show is what really got me into it !
I'm curious to see what direction the new "Darkwing Duck" will take in the Ducktales reboot now ... Guess if I don't like it, I'll still have the official comics though

XD If I ever get more stupid, silly ideas for comics, I promise there'll be more !

Thanks a lot for the feedback ! Drake's design, especially his facial feature, is one of the reason I fell in love with the show : he's amazingly endearing and expressive, especially in the most well-animated episodes !

It was a pure pleasure for me to mess around with those expressions and I'm glad you enjoy them so much !
