Description Haha, spoilers. But not really! I mean, who didn't see this coming?

Think for just a moment: the lord of the afterlife, Osiris, is the the god of fertility, agriculture, life itself, rebirth, and all things vegetation. Set here, of course, is the polar opposite of his brother; Set's the god of the desert, a very barren place... And he's alsoΒ the god of chaos, destruction, war, darkness, fire, storms, and foreigners -- lots of "bad" stuff in the eyes of the ancient Egyptians. Poor guy really got the short end of the stick, huh?

In TCotC lore, the contrast between Osiris' fertility and Set's barrenness is further emphasized in their children -- or, in Set's case, the lack thereof. Osiris has two strong sons, Horus and Anubis, while Set is left infertile -- he cannot have children, and he can never become a father...

Or can he?

You see, underneath all the cool monsters, magic, and mythology... The story of TCotC is primarily one about family. It tells how, for some, family can be your biggest support system... And for others, family can be what tears you down. Ultimately, your blood tie to someone else is only what you make it out to be -- your relationship with that person is what makes your bond meaningful, not the blood that runs through your veins. A "found family" of friends and people you love, even if they're not related to you by blood, can still be the greatest family of all.

And so, that brings us to the subject of this image. You see, Set and his wife Nephthys had always wanted children -- Set especially was distraught when he realized he would never get the chance to be a father. Nephthys did have a son with Osiris (that son being Anubis), but they did not get to raise him -- Anubis was raised by Isis as her son. And that wasn't all -- Set's infertility was at the top of a long list of curses the world seemed to place upon the chaos god. For a long while, it seemed like half the Duat and fate itself would keep trampling on the poor chaos god's tail for eternity...

And then, there suddenly comes a break.

An offering is made. A bargain is struck. A story has its beginning...

And a teeny tiny little mortal kitten is placed, practically thrown into the god's hand. The child is little, weak, and -- despite being just hours old -- has already been deemed a disappointment. The infant is treated like an "it" and is offered up to the god like a casual sacrifice... And yet, he still has the life and energy to mewl, squirm around, and swipe the god of chaos himself with one of his little clawed paws!

At first, Set wasn't sure what to do with this situation. He decided to watch the child that had been so readily given to him, and, slowly, he grew fond of the little creature...

And then he became a father.
