The best crit I have ever received and I am greatful and that is why I am here. Yes I do have client work from time to time which tends to be a bit quicker. If I spend three hours on an image or images I find that they do not look finished, I struggle to have an end of day look. At the moment I am just concentration on making a strong image which works well rather than the time. How long do you take per image, you have some very nice concepts, great depth of field also.

You're welcome. Whenever I crit people, I try to be as sensible as possible (otherwise it would seem like hate, and that's what separates those two). Either way! How long do I take on my paintings? Well, my second latest upload (Uncharted Sight) took around 30-40 minutes, but that's mainly because I used a brush to make the water look so realistic. Is that cheating? Well, uh-- not really. Kind of? But people only care about the end result, really. And those 150-something favorites I got on it, just prove that, I think.
But on average, I think I spend around an hour on each painting. There are a few where I take a bit longer, but that's usually when I'm not quite sure what I'm aiming for, or I just think something looks bad and I try to fix it. Only on rare occasions I get lucky with the brushstrokes right off the bat and don't really have to go back. Feng Zhu made a very great point about this; when you look around with your eye, your eye isn't focused on every surrounding detail, but instead more in wherever you're looking (aka, the focal point-- which I mentioned earlier). So, it's not necessary to focus on all those. I'm not saying that you should leave everything that surrounds it undefined, but I'm saying that you can leave them a bit vague and maybe put in some textures. Same with clouds, although they are relatively easy to paint.
And thanks! And surely it's important to go the hard way at first (I should do that too, but I'm pretty bad at teaching myself, haha) and do things a little slower. That way you'll learn best. The hard way is the best way.

I loive by Feng Zhu, I have learned all that I know from him, If I am not feeling creative I will watch a vid of his and get back in to it. I will study under him one day, beautiful place to live too. no it is not cheating to use Photo textures, using photos with out having a solid foundation can get you in to a lot of trouble. Sometimes I will start off with a texture or photo but it is all paint from their, maybe a couple to fine detail. I do a lot of hour paints but they are not something I upload. Right now I am taking my time and the more I do it the faster I get and with the same amount of detail. Your works are very acomplished, took me a couple years to be able to come up with some ok paintings. For me it was all about painting pretty pictures untill I came across Feng, bad choice of uni did not help eievr...

I like the new brush experiments, and the water detail is good. I like the bushes along the shore. Your style is evolving into some really cool work. As far as improvements go, the chains look a little out of place. Maybe making them a little more greyish, or dirty looking might make them fit in more to the piece. Some of the detail on the lower section of the island is a little much, but overall I think you are doing awesome. Keep it up!

Thanks! I also thought that the chains looked weird. I feel like they should've been black entirely, but I tried to shade them somehow, even thought they were technically in shadows.
But uh, look at my newest piece? That's a much better result of the new brushes. :]
