She returns to the lobby. It is empty. She had expected to see the porter at the desk. The porter she slept with. But he isn’t there. She is almost disappointed. It’s funny. She told herself she didn’t want to see him. And she didn’t. And then she felt disappointed. And now she was pretending to be relieved. She wanted to laugh.

She looked through the open guestbook. No new entry. She wanders through the corridors for a few minutes, looking for signs of the Red Woman. But she knows she isn’t there. She’s gone somewhere else.

Eileen lights a cigarette and steadies herself. Deep breaths.
