I guess they are mainly for change dresses and storage of beach items in this case. Some actually are standing ON the beach and probably have multiple functions

Too be honest I prefer the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea
It is so full of life and ever changing with tides and such.
But the smells of the south are certainly so much more pleasant and intense - my nose is already excited !
And the Camargue is also so very special, of course. I love it from the bottom of my heart !
I should not compare here - probably ....

It is known for its harsh climate and strong wind "mistral"... (about 300 days per year... lucky people ) Anyway the region is unique !
