Yes and true. A bit different from the tornadoes which are reported so frequently from the US these days. This part of the world has been hit by very serious storm - tides for all the human history it has experienced.

17 ft. is a BIG tide. We forget how small we are in comparison to water, wind, fire, and everything else. I am following the fire in Arizona with a sinking heart. There seems to be a disaster in some part of the world just about every day.

Indeed, though this long list going way back to the middle ages tells us that it is not a recent phenomenon. Nowadays people have a more and more anthropocentric point of view (imho) and forget their humbleness with regard to the power of nature. they would like to believe that they can control them, but they can not .

Yes, you are definitely right. Why, all of Iceland was under an ash cloud for YEARS centuries ago. It's also the speed with which we hear things and the incredible detail that is possible with media coverage now.
