No title. No author. Are there words? Do those familiar-foreign whispers count as words? Do those shaking visions, shifts in what seems to be real and not and here and not- Are those pictures?

What is this? Have I seen this before? Held this before?

Vigorous scratches cover the cover, rows of red eyes sign the spine, they’re spilling out of the pages, spreading like a stain. They’re watching, they’re watching, underneath the cover it even says they’re watching.

“YOU CANNOT ESCAPE”

“THE UNKNOWN”

“THE UNKNOWN”

A hole in its writhing scratched head bleeds black-like ink. But when I touch it, it’s a void. An absence, a tear. A bleeding hole in the cover, like a key should fit in. But it keeps changing, dripping, growing. I think the gold beneath the scratches shifts. I think the gems are watching. Something sees through.

“It has found you~” the hole speaks in quiet echoes, in many voices and none. It’s amused. It’s endeared. I cannot put it down.

“And it seems it has found Another too, how intriguing~” At those ominous whispered musings I feel something looming behind me, jibbering silence, a Madness, creeping around my peripherals in unavoidable red. Like blood filling my eyes from behind, it tries to enclose me. A torrent flood crashing through at my back. If I look, it will have me. If I run, it will take me. I cannot move. I hold what has its interest, what it called to … or what called it, and I cannot move.

Eyes clamped shut, nails digging in what now feels like strange flesh, I ask the book – the voice - I hold ‘What are you?’

I hear an eldritch chittering laughter.

“I am That Which Is Not~ Though now that Another knows how you wonder, perhaps I am not who you should focus on…~”

Book Quest for the Stygian Aetheneum event! I am a Big Sick, but finally well enough to even consider doing anything creative... I def. used some textures on this, and since it's a strange abstract thing, I wanted to do some writing too, just in case the book didn't count for quest minimums. Idk if this makes any sense at all, my brain is a giant mush, but AN ATTEMPT WAS MADE!!! -lays face down-
