Description
Five minutes after I finished this comic, my wife came home from the library with a copy of Downton Abbey, Season Two under her arm. I kid you not.Oh, and thanks to all those people who offered their kind words and support after I received that negative review. After one day, that journal entry had almost 150 comments on it. I appreciate it, guys.

His smile is the only thing that is keeping him running away. It's his game face.

Well, the key to romance (and the avoidance of tremendous pain) is, as a guy, to know your woman. Puck is a sucker for tulips and British period drama. Colin is a clever man.

Downton Abbey is a period drama (read soap opera set in the 1910's) produced by the BBC. It's currently really hot stuff amongst a certain female subset.

she's won over far too easily by flowers and tv. I wonder if something is going to go wrong in the next comic to make her mad again. . . .
I LOVE Daphne's comment. and the look on Colin's face, all you need is some sweat and it's the perfect 'I did something nice so please don't kill me' look.

Puck never remains not mad for longer than a few comics, trust me. And I felt the sweat would be hard to draw; I thought the end result might look a little hokey, so I decided to let readers imagine the sweat instead.

Romance is a primal instinct hidden deep down within every man. It activates at the right flow of adrenalin when in dire need of survival and the threat is their mate.

ElectricGecko In reply to JulianDeLio [2012-03-20 15:42:46 +0000 UTC]
Ah, but relationships have good parts too. War's good parts are mostly bad parts for other people, like when that enemy town gets blowed up real good. As for a relationship's good parts, well, I think we can say with fair certainty that all involved parties enjoy themselves.

War does blow up some towns really good. I guess I like the idea of relationships more than I like actually being in one; I've had a mix of good and bad experiences with them as well as being the victim and antagonist. But lately I haven't had much luck with girls, not for a lack of trying. People say it comes when you're not looking for it but the irony is that we're hardwired to always be looking for it!!

I hated that stage. As it is right now, though, I've been married for 11 years, and I don't miss my single days in any way. The games and the uncertainty and exactly what you describe are the parts I hated.

JulianDeLio In reply to ElectricGecko [2012-03-22 02:04:56 +0000 UTC]
One thing I can acknowledge is that being with someone for so long you develop a companionship and have a best friend, thats one thing I would enjoy about relationships. Right now I'm enjoying being single, not that I'm a player or anything (been a while since I've done the no pants dance) but because I have that unbridled freedom to what I want, which is good for now, but games and uncertainty are things I like to avoid!!

ElectricGecko In reply to JulianDeLio [2012-03-22 18:43:18 +0000 UTC]
Freedom is a good thing, and something that certainly goes away when you're with the wrong person. If you find someone who's right for you, then you can work together to make sure that, while you might not have the freedom to do EVERYTHING you want to do, you'll have the freedom to do the things that really matter to you.

JulianDeLio In reply to ElectricGecko [2012-03-23 05:42:00 +0000 UTC]
Haha that's pretty much hitting the nail on the head. You can't really have any sort of relationship without having to make compromises in the long down, that sort of thing really goes without saying and if someones not willing to make changes for you if you're bending over backwards for them, then they're clearly not worth it.

An excellent distraction. If an angry woman can still see you after you buy her flowers, then you haven't bought her enough flowers..

Or, alternately, you have not bought her the right TYPE of flowers. I have to spend a few minutes every Valentine's Day coaching my male students about the fact that after high school, carnations are NOT a valid flower choice.

Well, I think Puck's already so crazy, he's pretty much immune to any further craziness. It's far worse when your usually sane and even-keel partner goes totally crazy. It throws you off-guard.

Eile: Okay, not sure what's worse: that Colin believed he could get away with that crap, or that it actually WORKED!! I mean, come on, does anyone really believe that we modern, sophisticated ladies are such slaves to our biological programming that we'd be taken in by something so transparently schmaltzy?
Sunny: Yep, I do.
E: You do?! For god's sake, why!?
S: Cause it works on you all the time!
E: Er...huh. Can't argue with that. But what makes you think it still will now?
S: Cause it works on me, too, even though I know all about it! Or are you forgetting that time you made me that huge caramel and raspberry jam sundae? Or the time you gave me that massage? What about that bubble bath---
E: Okay, I get'cha! Heh, guess appeasement works both ways, don't it.
S: Hee-hee, yeah. Hey, Gecko, has your wife ever done anything like this to get back in your good graces?

ElectricGecko In reply to TeamGirl-Differel [2012-03-20 02:50:46 +0000 UTC]
Women never have to appease men, because women are inherently flawless. So no. My wife has never had to get back in my good graces, because she has never left them. I, on the other hand...

All I watch anymore is British-made period drama. It's Lark Rise to Candleford, followed by Downton Abbey, then maybe Cranford, and to round it all off, some old episodes of All Creatures Great and Small.
I'm a TV loser.

Wow. I've never heard of those! XD the only TV I have time to keep up with is Downton Abbey and Sherlock! Besides, British TV is better! And written SO well it makes me want to cry sometimes! I feel like American writers are so untalented and lazy compared to the BBC writers. Are Canadian TV writers good?
Hehe.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
ElectricGecko In reply to LovelyLadyAriadne [2012-03-21 01:18:44 +0000 UTC]
Uh, Canadian TV writers are ... not good. They're not bad in the same way as American TV, but population-wise, Canada is such a small country that the only way Canadian TV gets made is through government support and 'Canadian content' laws. So Canadian TV always has to be 'all about Canada' and it usually has a slightly amateur feel to it. I stick to British. The only American show I watch is the Office. Which was based on a British show. Go fig.
