This piece was done for the 10th Fan Art competition. I took second place, but I was up against some pretty intense artists. It's my take on the climactic final battle in Metroid Fusion against the Omega Metroid.Related content

Ever notice how similar this part was to the finale ofΒ Super MetroidΒ in a lot of ways?
Like Samus is at the end, now faced against an enhanced version of a past foe of her's (in Super it was the now stronger MotherBrain with a robotic T-Rex-like body. In Fusion it was a mutated Omega Metroid, a foe she fought before in Metroid 2). The said foe becomes near unstoppable and then the enemy strikes a tremendous hit on her reducing Samus's health really low and it looks like it's all over for our intergalactic bounty hunter as the enemy closes in on her.
When suddenly, the tables are turned by the intervention of one of the most unlikely of saviors, that being the alien creature that was trying to kill her earlier (in Super it was the Baby Metroid after growing much bigger. In Fusion it was SA-X). The said alien manages to do significant damage to the enemy Samus is faced against, but dies trying, though Samus then gains from its remains a new ability that she needs to gain the upper hand against said foe (in Super it was the Hyper Beam, in Fusion it was the Ice Beam). Then after slaying the said beast, she retreats to her ship and escapes right as the place she had been on for the whole game explodes behind her.

Nice, this is an awesome depiction of the final battle of the game, it looks really awesome, and you did a good job on the Omega Metroid, Samus, and the background. 
My only critique is, you have Samus in her traditional Varia suit, instead of the Fusion-style suit she had in "Metroid Fusion." (Oh well, I kinda prefer the Varia suit anyways.) Great work.

the omega metroid's in metroid II can all flyο»Ώ & have different attacks but this 1 dosen't plus it's bigger than the omega metroid's in metroid II & if i had to guess the omega metroid in fusion looked about half the size of the queen metroid so do u think that this omega metroid was about to become a queen metroid & thats y it lost all of it's abillites that we know about & gained more power to bring samus to her knees in 1 claw swipe?

Nice. This looks like the part where she reclaims her Varia Suit from the SA-X and finishes the SA-X's unfinished business. Oh. It is that part. Or maybe its the SA-X?
Really great pic. If details could kill, we'd be dead deviants. Really like the vibrant colors. The purple screams FUSION while the beam just feels plain cold. I'm surprised this one didn't win. Looks like an epic win to me.

You do know Samus had the Fusion suit? Or is that the SA-X?

Yeah, I realize she had the Fusion suit at that point - I've just always preferred the Varia suit.
