Description
Well - um - this is about a third of the real picture, but i hope it gives you an idea! When I get a scan of the whole thing, I'll replace this. I love the coloursThe result of someone asking for a picture containing unicorns, the sea, Cornwall and the Zennor mermaid (a picture of a mermaid on a stone in the church in Zennor)

The colouring's lovely, the wave-like knot-work and the designs are beautiful and I like colours. The mermaid's tail seems a little odd, but that's not very important as it still looks good. Lovely.

I'm impressed by the smoothness of the colouring and the balance. Do you plan a lot before starting your pics?

Thank you
This one was planned a great deal before colouring, because it was a present I wanted to check every little detail with the person who had asked for the pic to be done!
Normally there's not so much prep - most times the design will just flop into my head for a first draft and then twiddling and tweaking and colour playing ...

you should love the colors. They're wonderfully balanced with each other. This pic feels a little naiave, but not in a bad way-- naiave in the way that most manuscript and traditional celtic art was not perfectly polished.

I just adore these colours, I think its probably the best colour scheme I've put together. I'm glad you think it a little naive looking - it was a commission for someone who wanted a piece based on Celtic knotwork, unicorns, the sea and a few particular mermaid folk tales from Cornwall (UK).
And I think it worked. It has the right folksy floaty feeling I always associate with Cornwall

I agree with you on the colors. Indeed, they're gorgeous! Yes, do put up a scan of the whole thing; I'd love to see it. This must've been too big for the scanner; how big is the real thing?

Its about 40 cm across ... big enough to use up about 4 blue pencils during the colouring .... *sigh*
I'll put a full pic up as soon as I can get hold of one!

40 cm... (makes mental calculations to inches) wow! That's big!
At least you didn't use markers. They'd be dry as bone!
