Description I get asked how I make the Mad Hatter a lot. This is a tutorial that covers as much as I can about the construction process.

Part 2 is here: [link]

PLEASE NOTE: This tutorial assumes you've got some basic sewing/construction under your belt. HATS ARE VERY DIFFICULT TO MAKE, especially like this. If you have no clue how to sew, have no patience, and can't do some simple math/googling/asking a friend for help, this is NOT a project for you.

I'll try to field questions about this tutorial as best I can, though if you're asking about the math for the patterning, I can not help you there. Me and math are not friends. That's why I had my math wiz engineer friend help me when I created my first pattern - which I use as the basis for all Mad Hatters I make.

(If you're curious as to the progression of this pattern and the final outcome, you can see the various versions here:
Version 1: [link]
Version 2: [link]
Version 3: [link] )

I do occasionally sell these - contact me about commissions. Be warned these hats are a LOT of work and cost starts at $250 before shipping.)
