I've been asked many times how we made our kamael wings. I really didn't plan to write a tutorial EVER, but after 50th questions I gave up.That’s not the only or best way to make wings, but there were demands, so I comply
Wings made by Desler (ErikDesler ) and me (ElenaLeetah ).

this is WICKED AWESOME. Question: how did you shape the feathers that feathered out away from the wing and how did you keep them there?
also, could you explain the fabric base thing a bit? since you can't glue foam layers together, how do you get several layers of foam on top of the fabric base?

Thaat's the natural shape of the material, thank to the fact it's stored ir rolls
We ended cutting the top of each layer, sio all of them are glued to the fabric.

Hi! these are the most amazing wings I have seen, you did an incredible job!. One question, what thickness was that foam? it looks super thin, almost transparent.

Will this work when making Batwings for a Live action Role playing costume character also?

Batwings are done not this way exactly, but I think you can use the principal idea.

Great work on the costumes! I have a quick question, Do you think using the polyethylene foam would work for wings that are articulated? Would the foam bend/crease?
I'm attempting to make a pair of wings that will open and close, and I have the frame fairly well sorted, but I'm still trying to figure out the best approach for feathers. Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks
Yeah, I think it'll work, but some altarations are to be made, of course, for articulated wings.

We just saw Maleficent (2014) in the theater today, and my daughter (6 yo) has decided THIS is what she will be for Halloween this year. (I'm thrilled, I LOVE making costumes!!) Your solution for lightweight and durable wing material is BRILLIANT!!! Now - to go find some black PE foam and figure out some sort of harness!! (Did Erik ever post anything about the harness? If no, I bet I can figure something out) Thank you for taking the time to make your VERY detailed instructions.

What kind of paint did you use? I need a black wing, but I'm uncertain of the effect of spray paint on the polyethylene. (I know some foams don't like spray paint). I have brush paints, but I'm interested to know the effects and coating of whatever you used since yours look aMAZing ^_^

I am still a bt messed up so... What I see on the pictures (the one in the tutorial where I guess erikdesler is wearing a wing) is really only an isolon?(I mean all those layers, those "feathers" are only from ONE LAYER OF ISOLON?) If it is true, do you think it is possible to spray the wing with the black color? It won§t be totally black I guess, right? Thank you for this tutorial!
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
ElenaLeetah In reply to Betusik-chan [2014-08-27 18:40:28 +0000 UTC]
It's from several layers of isolon, as plainly stated in tutorial. AND fabric for the base.
Can spray in black or any color, sure. But it won't be midnight-black, yeah.
You're welcome.

How much WHAT? )) And, anyway, that totally depend on the exact shape, size and layers of the desired wing.
Thanks

how did you attach the wing to the harness? and what would you do if you had to hide the harness under clothes?

Well, we have our harnasses UNDER our clothes, as you see. There're 4 screws in the backs of our jackets.
