Description I've been asked many times how we made our kamael wings. I really didn't plan to write a tutorial EVER, but after 50th questions I gave up.
That’s not the only or best way to make wings, but there were demands, so I comply

Wings made by Desler (ErikDesler ) and me (ElenaLeetah ).
Tutorial made by me

РУССКАЯ ВЕРСИЯ - ЗДЕСЬ

Those are our kamaels, thanks to those costumes this tutorial was created:

You're welcome! I bet they were fun to wear too! So you fence in cosplay? That sounds like the coolest hobby ever...it's practically extreme cosplay or almost-life threatening LARP.

ElenaLeetah In reply to Antilogist [2013-08-29 20:14:45 +0000 UTC]

Yep, they were very fun to wear. Never expected so much attention on the festival О_О

Yes, those costumes were made special for fencing. As well as couple of other. Well, ~ErikDesler and me fencing for a couple of years already, including cosplay sketches, and yet to receive some injury (TTT). We are wielding steal rapiers and swords, so we are careful

Neat! I'd love to see a video of this sometime! I hope you continue doing this! And don't get hurt!

We've got the vidoes of the fencing on youtube aomewhere, try searching for 'Hide-Out LineAge' or 'Leetah Desler Utena'

Also, I've given the link somewhere in the information to the LA photos.

Thanks a lot, I'll try my best

These are the best wings I have ever seen.  I really would like to use your tutorial for my castle age costume.  A couple questions. What type of fabric did you use for the base, and did you hot glue the wire onto the fabric?  Also, how was the harness made?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ElenaLeetah In reply to buffybabe86 [2013-08-01 16:11:13 +0000 UTC]

Thanks a lot

The fabric was some kind of rough cotton. We've sewn it on the wire.

How the harness was made please ask my partner, ~ErikDesler , it's his know-how

demon-runner In reply to ??? [2013-07-02 19:03:19 +0000 UTC]

Hi This is a brilliant design! thank you so much for the tutorial! I do have a quick question though if you don't mind, was wondering if there would be any benefit to adding more to the internal structure like maybe mesh/chicken wire/extra steel wire? (or if adding such things would even be feasible under your current design). I don't mind that such a thing comes at the cost of adding a bit of extra weight if it would make any sort of positive difference. Just worried about the wear and tear I may put on the wings

thanks again for your help!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ElenaLeetah In reply to demon-runner [2013-07-03 13:37:19 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the compliment!
Yep, I do thing that adding a little bit of inner structure in the middle of each "feather", like some sort of plastic corset bones, for examle. We didn't do this on purpose, but I think it may look better. Not for kamael wings, but for more natural-looking - definately!

how can I attach the wings, that you couldn't see the "rack" on which they are installed? I do character who has armor and wings and I would like to 'use' this tutorial but don't know how to do it.. thanks u!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ElenaLeetah In reply to KleinPolen [2013-06-20 07:38:19 +0000 UTC]

You just have to wear the rack UNDER the top layer of your costume and than later have wings screwed onto it.
We are wearing heavy racks under jackets here, but you can see them even from behind.

I plan to try and make wings for howl's moving castle, and i saw that at the bottom you suggested not adding feathers, why is that?
