Description I've been asked many times how we made our kamael wings. I really didn't plan to write a tutorial EVER, but after 50th questions I gave up.
That’s not the only or best way to make wings, but there were demands, so I comply

Wings made by Desler (ErikDesler ) and me (ElenaLeetah ).

РУССКАЯ ВЕРСИЯ - ЗДЕСЬ

Those are our kamaels, thanks to those costumes this tutorial was created:

Because mixing real feather and isolon makes it look ever less natural. It really attracts attention to the fact that isolon is not exactly it. I advise not doing that, but you can always try and prove me wrong

thank you so much for the quick response! Im looking at using this tutorial but i dont see anywhere about the thickness of the foam. looking at some online shops, the only polyethylene foam i see is either thin sheets or too thick foam.

Hello! First of all just wanted to say how awesome these look! I have never played Lineage but I have seen artwork from the game and you did such an amazing job with replicating these!

Secondly I am looking to make some wings for a cosplay as well and I was wondering how well the foam holds up. I am incredibly nervous about walking around in a crowded convention with my wings so anything you can tell me would be great. I hope when the time comes that I make mine they look as wonderful as yours!

Thanks for taking the time to reply and for posting this tutorial

Thank you very much for the praise, I really appreciate it!

The foam, if it's connected as we did for our wings in the tutorial, holds rather well: those wings traveled with us in the other city, were on two festivals in our city and was take in wilderness for photoshoot. And we were repeatedly fencing in those. No single "feather" was lost! So, hot-glue and fabrik in-layers makeing those wings very long-lived.

Wow, I just love the effect. You guys did such an awesome job with these. I would have never thought of these materials. After seeing this, I think I might actually try for a winged character at some point now. ^^ Your cosplays look fabulous as a whole too, btw. I dont know the game, but I can definitely appreciate good craftsmanship.

Thank you very much for the praise! Actually I haven't played the game too - only couple of hours on a closed server to see our characters from all the angles and see how they move.
Wish you luck with your characters!

Lyte-tech In reply to ElenaLeetah [2013-04-07 04:14:27 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome! Very much deserved. lol, I always find characters from games or series that I like and want to cosplay purely because of the design, but I feel like I need to actually know/play it for it to be okay. Did you guys just really like the character designs then?
Ah, and thank you! I'm actually considering Pit from Kid Icarus...bum hmm. I feel that I'm just way too tall for him. >_< But man, I do want to make the wings just because now, haha.

ElenaLeetah In reply to Lyte-tech [2013-04-07 10:53:48 +0000 UTC]

No, character design was third reason. They just suited our purpose very well: we read everything of the kamael race, and there're vicious AND that's the only rapier-wielding race And than we chose the costumes we love. So we KNEW our characters, if not played them.

Haha, well thoroughly researching them is just as good. I'd do that too~

ElenaLeetah In reply to Lyte-tech [2013-04-08 07:58:23 +0000 UTC]

Well, I don't get how you can cosplay a character you know nothing of o_O So - research is everything!

Beautiful work by the way . I made a a small replica of the wings and the only problem is how the wire stays connected with the foam material. I read through all the comments and I only read how the wire connected to back plate, but not the wings.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ElenaLeetah In reply to JAG-Blue-Dragon [2013-03-21 17:58:09 +0000 UTC]

The foam connected to the fabric. Fabric glued and sewn on the wire.

koi-ishly In reply to ??? [2013-03-18 22:39:11 +0000 UTC]

Do you by chance know the thickness of the foam you used? There's 1/32, 1/16, 1/8 and so on... The thicker the foam I would think the less "movement".

Hey! I don't think it's said anywhere -- but about how much foam did it take to make these? A friend of mine is trying to figure out how much to buy to make a pair. c:

Thanks!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ElenaLeetah In reply to lameboat [2013-03-05 06:47:16 +0000 UTC]

Sorry, don't remember. Just count all the layers one need. Then count the space one need for their 1 layer (width - lenght), double it, then multiply on layers count.
