That's really wonderfully magical. Though I've heard from fuddy-duddy science types that real elephants can't use their trunk as a snorkel because of water pressure and mass displacement crushing their lungs, I prefer to think they're wrong. This picture feels poetically accurate.

I don't know about using it as a snorkel, but I totally see elephants swim all the time, and maybe they keep their trunk up so water doesn't get sucked up their nose in an unpleasant way? I dunno. But I dig elephants and they make me happy and I could really use it right now.

I have never seen elephants swimming. But elephants are pretty rare up here in snowy Canada. Many of the zoos are now sending their elephants south because of animal cruelty issues and such. So I will defer to you on all things elephant.

My wife loves elephants. She was very sad when they took them away from the Metro Toronto Zoo. (The big problem with an elephant in Canada: what do you do with it in winter? You can have a building for it, but unless that building is practically stadium-sized, it's not going to big enough to let the elephant get exercise and all that.)
