I know some ponies will look at Twilight as being an older sister to Spike. I also did too, but at the same time looked at her as a mother too.
I'd just like to let people know that over time, I began thinking Twilight was more like an older sister than a mother. Twilight's Seven even confirmed that Spike sees Twilight as his sister.

eh. I see Spike and Twilight more as siblings simply because of how young twilight was when she hatched him and because they tend to act more like siblings then parent and child. While they do love each other they also bicker, tease, and some times disrespect each other.
I think it's similar to to Applejack and Applebloom. It's assumed their parents are dead so Applejack probably helped raised her sister but they still act like siblings rather then parent and child.

Here is how I see Twilight and Spike. There seems to be 3 elements to their relationship.
Mother and Son (Twilight would have raised Spike as a baby.)
Sister and brother (When they get older, there seems to be more of a playful side to their relationship.)
EmployerΒ and Employe (Spike is kind of like a worker for Twilight Sparkle.)

Well Spike is still young but when he gets older I see no reason personally he and Rarity could not become a loving couple.

From the way I had the MLP: FIM universe figured, ponies (with the exception of alicorns) age like humans and dragons age like vampires. Unless... Do you think that for dragons, lacking wings and (a) horn(s) means the opposite of having both for ponies?

... well that matters. It has clearly been shown Cadence ages normal for a pony being shown as a teenage babysitter and then an adult. I myself do not believe the simply gaining a horn and wings makes a pony long lived or immortal. Extended life/immortality comes from being BORN a. alicorn not being made an alicorn.Heck, it has been confirmed Twilight will not out with her friends.

Cadence wasn't always an alicorn. Originally, she was a pegasus. And how would you know if longevity applies only to born alicorns and not turned ones? Or if ponies can even be born as alicorns or can only turn into them?

Some of my information is based on what Lauren Faust is actually said, until the show says differently I treat it is canon of sorts.
Lauren Faust has said Celestia and Luna are born alicorns, that they had livex with their parents in the now worn castle that is found in the Everfree forest.

Also yes that is something I did know about Cadance and I actually take a lot from Twilight Sparkle the Crystal Heart Spell, treating it as canon of sorts as well.

I guess if the one that made the series says so, it's as good as canon. Also, about Cadence originally being a Pegasus, I didn't notice her horn in Twilight's flashbacks until I saw them again.

Thank you for pointing that out. It disturbs me how Spike is shipped with Twilight - but at least there isn't nearly so much of a for-the-sake-of-it feel as SpiJack, SpiDash, etc.

I kind of see both as mother and son relationships. It's like falling for your mom's hot friend just because she's beautiful and she's nice to you. You know you'll never get with her but it's nice and harmless to fantasize about it. We grow out of it eventually.
But hey, Spike's actual age and growth patterns are kind of ambiguous so I can't judge. Ship whatever makes you happy.
