Description
The SeventhCharacters
Raca: A woman, age 25, that has been brought alive to seek revenge.
Loren: A woman, age 22, that is the only surviving member (out of 6 people total) that cursed Raca.
Setting: In a cluttered room in an abandoned house. There is a desk to the left; a window at the back, and a door to the right. Raca is tied up in the center to a pole.
RACA has her head bowed and is moving her lips. Footsteps can be heard and then a voice.
LOREN:
And they all stand there with blank
expressions for their evil
obsessions blinded them to
the light. Without great Reason
they did fall, but still they shall
rise redeemed. Though the Book says
otherwise, they will be saved.
LOREN walks in with some papers, but RACA still doesn't lift her head up.
RACA:
"Me fellows," Angel said.
"Here in Hell I think of
me family that I
killed. Not out of me
own anger or spite,
but out of awful joy."
LOREN walks over to the desk and starts to set the papers down.
LOREN:
And they all stand there with blank
expressions for their evil
obsessions blinded them to
the light. Without great Reason
they did fall, but still they shall
rise redeemed. Though the Book says
otherwise, they will be saved.
RACA finally looks to LOREN as LOREN sorts through the papers. Anger is slowly creeping into RACA'S face, but LOREN doesn't pay any attention.
RACA:
"Me Hellmates," said Mark.
" I felt such joy as their
blood filled the house's clean
floors. They weren't known to
me, though I pity their
screams. I lost me soul."
LOREN finished with the papers and starts looking through the room for something.
LOREN:
And they all stand there with blank
expressions for their evil
obsessions blinded them to
the light. Without great Reason
they did fall, but still they shall
rise redeemed. Though the Book says
otherwise, they will be saved.
LOREN continues searching as the anger is becoming more evident in RACA'S expression.
RACA:
"Soulless hearts," said John.
"Not only did I mar
her body, I made her
breathe her last breath, then I
changed her body into
grotesque remnants. Damn night."
LOREN finally picks up two pictures, goes to the desk, sets the pictures on top of the papers, and starts looking in the desk drawers for tape.
LOREN:
And they all stand there with blank
expressions for their evil
obsessions blinded them to
the light. Without great Reason
they did fall, but still they shall
rise redeemed. Though the Book says
otherwise, they will be saved.
RACA spits and LOREN jumps. LOREN looks into RACA'S eyes for the first time.
RACA:
"Hellish nightmares," said Luke.
"What beauty a woman
does hold. And after you
satisfy your false love,
you cut her throat and leave
her dead. Damn me lusting."
LOREN turns away quickly and continues searching for tape. RACA laughs.
LOREN:
And they all stand there with blank
expressions for their evil
obsessions blinded them to
the light. Without great Reason
they did fall, but still they shall
rise redeemed. Though the Book says
otherwise, they will be saved.
LOREN finally finds some tapes and searches around for a place to put them up. LOREN finds a place and starts to put the pictures up.
RACA:
"Tactless villains," said Ham.
"All you need to do is
leave the body dead. For
the fun should stop at the
killing. Loathsome rogues, do
you sense your sadism."
LOREN finishes putting the pictures up. They can be shown to be two people. One is of a young boy in a swimsuit on a sandy beach. The other picture is of a mountain lake.
LOREN:
And they all stand there with blank
expressions for their evil
obsessions blinded them to
the light. Without great Reason
they did fall, but still they shall
rise redeemed. Though the Book says
otherwise, they will be saved.
RACA (screams): Loren, I think you view life as holy and death as damnation! I tell you that life is much more punishing! Year after year I feel the bloodcall. I know it's wrong, but I must follow my instincts. That's all they are. And they won't be denied.
LOREN: You call them instincts, Raca? No instinct could conceive of such horrific ways of killing as you have.
RACA: I am only what you made me. If I am so damnable, you are no different. You seem to think you are blameless in my crimes. You act as if you are above me, when you are below. And, in the next life, I will continue to torture you. This is a fact that can't be denied.
LOREN walks in front of RACA and they look at each other.
LOREN: I did not make you. It was an accident! We didn't know what we were doing!
RACA: Oh? It was an accident? Thanks, that makes me feel so much better. In fact, I think the curse is wearing off. Thank you so much.
RACA lunges at LOREN, but the ropes stop RACA from getting to LOREN. In frustration, RACA roars.
RACA: Even if it was an accident, that gave you no reason for you and your friends to tear me apart. When you were finished with me, no one could recognize me. George, Christina, Martha, James, and Sarah also helped you. You didn't stop them. Guess you got too caught up in the moment.
LOREN: I…I…I…didn't mean to.
RACA: Is that the best excuse you can come up with? I was minding my own business, visiting my friend's grave. She only died a week before.
LOREN: By something that was your fault, if I remember correctly.
RACA (laughs): So that's your tactic? Shift the conversation from you to me? I am not perfect, I know that. But let's look at who's in the worse situation, shall we? You have your friends killed by me, and I am cursed to have bloodlust for your group until the last of you die. That means until you die. When that happens I will finally be allowed to die.
LOREN: I brought up your dead friend for a reason. You meddled with affairs bigger than you. Your greed made you do things, and your friend's death equaled greater wealth for you. How did you kill her? How did she die?
RACA: Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!
RACA cries and struggles against the ropes.
LOREN: It does no good. You can't break loose this time.
RACA: Try me, just try me. I will have vengeance! With your death, my peace will come. Your death equals my death! My death! Do you know how sweet those words are? I admit I did help my friend to her demise, but I had a reason. My life was on the line, and she would die anyways. Someone else would kill her, I mean. Her crime was her association to me. I just made her death come sooner.
LOREN walks to the two pictures.
LOREN: George looks so funny as a kid. It's a great photo. The mountain lake I remember so clearly. George and I went on a long hike to it. It was wonderful. We really connected then. And you killed him!
LOREN walks back to RACA.
RACA: I did not kill him, you did. You did by helping to perform the ceremony. I don't know what you did, I was too busy being hacked up to notice. But I do know that you were involved. The sense that comes with my damnation tells me. Oh, it tells me so clearly.
LOREN: You didn't seem that resisting when you killed him.
RACA: It is my damnation, and I can't do anything about it. I tried to resist in the beginning, I really did, but it was too hard. The bloodlust shouted for me to obey, and I finally gave into it. It was horrible, but what other choice did I have? I tried killing myself many times, but that didn't work. Death is staying away from me. Death is staying away! Death is afraid of me. Afraid of what I am. You cursed me!
LOREN: You cursed yourself! You were out so late and you blame me for your habits? That's not how things work. You have to take responsibility for yourself and not always lean on a crutch.
RACA: I'm not leaning on a crutch. I'm someone brought by circumstance into a situation not of my making. You better watch out, one day I will kill you. Don't think I won't.
RACA closes her eyes and hums.
RACA:
"Destiny," said Judas.
"What a curse. To have to
Know that you harmed such an
innocent one. But I
believe I should not be
here. For I saw HIM rise."
LOREN walks slowly out of the room while saying the refrain.
LOREN:
And they all stand there with blank
expressions for their evil
obsessions blinded them to
the light. Without great Reason
they did fall, but still they shall
rise redeemed. Though the Book says
otherwise, they will be saved.
RACA looks to the empty doorway and sighs.
RACA: Which one of us is the seventh?

I love the movie-like quality if some of your works.
Sigh... I know this one contains a poem you wrote earlier. I wish I had more time to read your (or anybody's) works and see how it all fits in...

Thanks
*pats you on the back*
Basically I'm taking the symbolism of 6 and 7, which was the main thing in "One Step Away". 6 is one step away from 7 (one step away from salvation). It begins with the ballad and the last line is Raca asking which one of them (her or Loren) is the one that will be saved. In other words, which one of them is better.
