I'm just curious, how did you manage to do this one so quickly, when you other one took you 3 times as long?

Are you referring to the *HuiLin85 portrait I did before this one? It took me forever because besides the portrait and panther, I had no reference for pose or lighting, and I therefore had a lot of trial and error mistakes before I was satisfied with the result! This was just a facial portrait, and pretty simple because I didn't have to get the right colour tints or have too much detail to worry about with the hair or clothes.

Yes, I was referring to that portrait. But what you says makes sense, I guess this piece was a lot easier with color and everything

I can't help but mimic what everyone else said..
I couldn't vector something looking half way as good in anything less than a few days! lol! How do you do this so quickly and perfectly...
Your awesome at what you do..

Vectoring is hard! It doesn't look too hard but when you actually do it, ugh! I have a lot of respect for those who can vector, it's a patient and trying process! Well if anything, black and white paintings make things a lot simpler too! Thank you very much!!

Aw thanks! This piece was pretty simple, actually, the only part that needed focus was the facial features and hand! Thank you again!

Black and white's much easier to paint with since you don't have to worry about the right tones!

OMG! Jessica, this is absolutely fabulous! I think this could be by far, my favorite painting of yours. The details in her hair, her cigarette and her dress are lovely. I absolutely love her eyes, and the fact that you made them the only feature that has some color. I'm totally in awe of this one, and I love the painting!
You captured her magnificently!

Yeah?? My husband said it's his favourite too, and thinks it's my best piece yet! I beg to differ, but I'm glad you really like it! The small tint of colour was a last second thought, I think I might utilise that in the following b/w portraits I do! Thank you so much for your kind words!!

Well, it looks like I spoke to soon. The Rita one might have knocked Hedy off my #1 favorite spot.
Whether or not you add the hint of color won't detract from the beauty of the piece. Play it by ear and see when it does and doesn't work for you, or the piece. But they're all turning out so beautifully, so you needn't worry.
Always, Jess!

Aw yeah?? I still love Hedy, though I'm starting to see some flaws in her face...
I'm glad you like this one though, this is the photo that got me thinking of doing portraits again! It's such a good capture of her personality and beauty...you know Rita's a Libra? I'm so proud!
Thank you so much for your support hun!

You're too hard on yourself. I don't see any flaws at all, and don't you go trying to point them out either! I thought I'd seen all the photos of those lovely actresses already. Needless to say I've been collecting them as well, but I've never seen as lovely reference photos as your paintings.
LOL! Trust you to go check up on star signs and birth dates. You're too cute. And you're always welcome Dear.

Aw, thanks for your support! Well I've given you my reference site, so enjoy!! I was so ecstatic when I found that site (fanpix.net)---and hey, you know a classic Hollywood actress who's a Pisces? Jean Harlow!
Did all the boys love her!!

All those hairs AND wrinkles in 3.5 hours? ayyyy. beautiful.. I love the tiny touch of color in her eyes and although I hate to admit it...the cigarette looks great with the smoke and all.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
ellastasia In reply to Ahuvah [2008-10-24 21:10:21 +0000 UTC]
Not too many wrinkles, and if you look closely, the hair is more texture than being accurate! Black and white is much easier to work with since you don't really have to worry about the tones and everything. But thank you!! I like the cigarette too, back then it was something classy, unlike today where it's more or less a "cancer stick"!

Ahuvah In reply to ellastasia [2008-10-24 23:54:36 +0000 UTC]
Looks like a lot of wrinkles to me and the hair is quite convincing at least to my unlearned eye
It's crazy how many old movies everyone smokes in...it was so fashionable now most of the smokers and city people or old western's in movies.
not that that's an accurate representation of life
