Pastel on colored paperFemale characters, such as Salome and Sphinx are sometimes painted by artists as symbol of mysterious and scary side of women for men. Even me myself is a female, I feel it very often. In this study of head, I tried to express the obscure and in-understandable side of women in the face of Sphinx.

Well, I quite like the idea that it is only portrait not the whole body, because the human face is very important in the figure of sphinx. Some guys are more into those human shaped animals (walking on two legs but having lion ears) but I prefer your work, it's more classical.

I adore the colors...it's like firelight instead of daylight. And what a great concept! I think a lot of 'scary' women in historic literature get the short end of the stick. I'd love to see your take on a lot of other figures, too!
