Description
I did it and I am UNASHAMED. Has my obsession reached an apex? Is it all downhill from here? Find out next time, on DRAGON BALL Z!Cell here is 6 foot 10 inches of pure screaming death and is made up of 50k+ Perler beads and spanned 70 pegboards. Don't ask me how long it took me to make him because I stopped keeping track a long, long time ago
The internet was surprisingly vague on Cell's actual size! People were guestimating him to be anywhere between 6'5" to 7'3". Seriously what. I did my own guesswork measuring him next to Goku during their fight and I clocked him around 6'10"ish! DUDE IS HUGE! And that begs the question... Android 16 literally picked Cell up like a pile of laundry and gave him the death hug, so... just how big is Android 16?! Cause damn.
ANYWAY. Here's the link to the Imgur album for WIP shots, size comparison and etc images.Β imgur.com/a/P025J
This Cell was based off an annoyingly blurry screenshot from the show, and I maaaaaay have attempted to hug him after I nailed him to the wall which is why he looks so pissed off. Mmmyep.

Whateverrrr that Thanos is awesome :3 Cell here was 70 pegboards, but I made him in four pieces and each piece was around 15-17 pegboards.
The fact that you were able to iron 28 pegboards in one go like that is amazing I'm working on a big 34 pegboard piece now that I think I'm going to try ironing in one go, but I'm kinda on the fence about it because I'm terrified of ironing something big like that. Too many opportunities to mess stuff up, I guess.

How DO you melt things in sections, I tried taping things in pieces then sticking them together, but it didn't work.

I ironed each of the four pieces like they're separate beadsprites, and then at the end I nailed them on the wall separately Sometimes two pieces won't fit together right and they have a gap between them, so I use x-acto knife along the edges to get them to fit straight.

I have so many questions but I am in such awe as to how you did this!!! GREAT JOB!!!
Do you do the tape method?Β
π: 0 β©: 1
Ellsworth-Toohey In reply to kinipela38 [2015-01-30 20:11:23 +0000 UTC]
Hehe thanks! I don't mind questions
I did use the tape method, I made him in four pieces - upper torso, lower torso, and the two legs. For each one I taped it up, poked the holes, and used two plywood boards to flip them over so I could pull the pegboards off the tape instead of the tape off the pegboards.

Omfg this is amazing....do you own 70 pegboards?! xD I only have 6 (and I lost one...) so everytime I have to iron a larger sprite I make the parts seperately and then attach them...it's really irritating. I HATE ironing, it's my least favorite part. You're a god.

Ellsworth-Toohey In reply to Papikari [2015-01-14 10:55:15 +0000 UTC]
That's actually what I did, I ironed it in four separate pieces and just hung the pieces on the wall together Makes for easier transportation when moving and such. I wish I owned 70 pegboards! I think I'm up to 30 something of them at the moment.

Wow that's really impressive, I'm sure you put hundreds of hours into beading it. And here I am trying to finish just one project in a month. ;_; I need a better work routine. How many hours do you spend beading on a typical day?
π: 0 β©: 1
Ellsworth-Toohey In reply to Craeter [2015-01-14 10:59:12 +0000 UTC]
I'm kind of all over the place about beading! Sometimes I go a week without touching a project I started, sometimes I can work on it for 8 hours straight. Normally if I have a day where I have nothing to do, like if it's cold and rainy or husband has the car all day, I just sit around and bead for 8-10 hours. Soooo maybe around 10-15ish hours a week?

Craeter In reply to Ellsworth-Toohey [2015-01-14 18:40:05 +0000 UTC]
ooh ok, thanks for the response! I have a hard time focusing on anything for more than a few hours, so I never get anything done unless I'm consistent about it. For me, it's all about rhythm. I'm getting back into the groove of things now that the breaks over, this should be an exciting year.

I appreciate that someone took the time to waste such a long time of their life to make a fictional character out of beads.
I applaud you.

Thanks! I didn't use a sprite for this guy, I created a custom pattern based on a screenshot from the show.Β I just saw the Goku you made! That thing is awesome, you put such a huge amount of detail into it

π: 0 β©: 1
Ellsworth-Toohey In reply to M4ykeul [2015-01-13 20:41:45 +0000 UTC]
I use a Perler program that turns images into bead patterns and then I open up the patterns in Photoshop to edit the colours and take out any parts I don't like.
I know lots of people use Beadsurge but I like this one better dolkow.se/perler/ because you can edit the colour palette.
