Description I used to be a John K.'s fanboy for some years ago, but nowadays I'm not all that excited with some of SpΓΌmc0 late projects, specially the "adult party cartoon". However, I still respect a lot the way his work inspired me since the first time I've seen on TV his version (along with Ralph Bakshi) of Mighty Mouse, on 80's. And of course, the first (and much better) version of Ren & Stimpy.

yah, i'm not sure what john was really up to with the adult party cartoon. from what i can tell it seems Mr. K was heavily influenced by fan mail and decided that ren and stimpy needed to be edger hence nudity (no complaints so far) and lots of gay jokes with some of my childhood heroes (WTF!)

i've still learned a lot from John's blog regarding theory and animation, so i am forever a fanboy.

It always happens, a really talented dude gets successful, but then everything has to be done exactly their own way. No more moderation and input from others. The art becomes too extreme and out there. Then it ceases to be great any more. At least while they are alive. 100 years from now, you never know what's popular!

I also agree, the first/classic version of Ren and Stimpy is far much better. Really miss that show. You've done a great job here, very nicely detailed, love the poses. Heh heh. Ren's classic line of "You Eeeediot!" never gets old.

Fave!

Space Madness being my all time fav right next to "Firedogs".
You are the beast bro!
You REEeeeeHeely captured the "essence" of these characters perfectly (right "on model") from the cartoon zenith of popularity!!!!

Thanks for the kind words, Pat! I also have a lot of respect for your talent.
My favorite episodes are "To Salve and Salve Not", "Sven HΓΆek" and "The Royal Canadian Kilted Yaksmen". This one specially because of the high animation quality.

I'll definitely agree John K. ain't what he used to be. He still gives some cracker jack advice though.

I was never really creamed my jeans over Mr. K... but man do I love Eddie Fitzgerald. He reminds me of the crazy uncle I never had.

Oh by the way that giant hand of Ren's is excellent... definitely reminiscent of better times of Ren and Stimpy

O novo Ren & Stimpy Γ© bem gay... hehehehehe!

I miss alot of the old cartoons. D= All the ones today are horribly stupid with low budget animation that are OBVIOUSLY aimed at little kids, or they're 'anime style' ripoffs with overused anime expressions. Makes me a very sad animation lover.

I agree that the old Ren and Stimpy was way better.

John K. is still one of my biggest inspirations though. He's an advocate of pushing animation to be the best it can be.

eltonpot In reply to RWappin [2007-04-06 14:31:58 +0000 UTC]

Indeed. And I agree with something that Andrew Dickman said about John K. sometime ago: "I really think the guy makes valid points and can be a really respectable teacher in both animation and cartoons. I just don't HAVE to agree with him all the time."
