Description
DOWNLOAD FOR A LARGER FILE!!I was requested to make a graphite tutorial to help a fellow deviant develope a bit more with her shading. So I decided that I'd throw one together with the next piece. It's not the greatest because the drawing is 14x17 in which I had to take photos of.:S It looks better in person.
About 5 hours of work including the line art and the tutorial.

Yeah, this was the first one I had ever created so naturally there were some flaws.
[link] This is a video tutorial I created some time after.

Aww, I'm sorry. Perhaps sometime again I will do another tutorial since I've gotten better at them.

I get the idea, do the dark then the light and the middletones, but I cant figure out how you made the wood look like wood

Well, once I got the darker shadows and the lines of the boards, I added in the lighter details of the wood, like little lines for grain and knots and what not. Then i blended them together and then erased lines for grain and around the knots and reblended. Then i darkened the knots and dark areas and blended.

Glad it could help. With my mech, I usually do a few layers and it darkens nicely.

This would be much more helpful if the sample images were actually large enough for us to see the changes in detail as you progress...

I can only make them so large without it being insanely huge.
