Pablo de Sarasate composed the brilliant short work, Zigeunerweisen as a homage to Gypsy music. The title is Gypsy Airs, in English, but is usually known by its German name.
The first section is like a musical poem, referencing the music's far-eastern roots. The middle section is a little son so maudlin that it as always quoted in movies and cartoons whenever extreme or comic pathos was required. The final section is a wild Gypsy dance to be performed at a breathless tempo.
