How good..I´m not sure that I´m understood your question right?

SenInt In reply to ElysianTrooper [2014-05-06 09:16:36 +0000 UTC]

Let me put it more simple then...

I have this idea of new IG regiment.
It's theme is Finnish army during Winter war in 1939-1940.
So I'm wondering, how would YOU imagine their appearence, equipment, lasguns etc. look like in WH40k universe?
Just curious...

I think would be a thing in the direction valhallan army, but if I had to do it, I would ad a lightly armour and more modern looking weapons, I´m not afriend of the old styled armies.

SenInt In reply to ElysianTrooper [2014-05-06 10:01:21 +0000 UTC]

Maybe.
Although the Valhallan army looks more like the opposite side, Red army of Soviet, not to mention the tactics too.
(more about Winter war you can find from Wikipedia...)
Finnish forces were low on supplies, but they managed to stubbornly defend against massive human waves. Not to mention about the tanks the enemy sent with the waves too.
Maybe a little modified look of Valhallan, veterans with snow camos, Rough riders on skis (I've custom build 5 of them), guerilla fighters, etc.
Valhallan atmostphere sounds like frozen desert (or polar pole like), there where I would describe planet "Tuonela" as frozen forest planet with short summers and long dark winters.
What pattern of lasgun would fit for these short distance forest fights?

Maybe the steel legion folding stock rifles...is partly wood used, gives a older touch...

Hmmm... or Steel legion pattern lasgun with wooden stock...? How short was it again?

Yes Death Korps of Krieg....and yes the weapon may be a design mixup between Garand/BAR/M14/MAS or something else...

Where is bayonet!!!
How you can perform bayonet charge without bayonet?
no bayonet charges, no DKoK

BTW: I have question, when new IG troops are created (on planet which doesn't have them earlier), who train troops? Can officers from other regiments?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ElysianTrooper In reply to Thrownik [2013-01-13 08:29:22 +0000 UTC]

Sure there would be a bayonet later, but first the weapon then the bayonet...but I have testet the size adding a old bayonet for a other weapon on a pic...

Your question is a very interesting point, most of the training they get in there own PDF (planetar defense forces) but often they are not equipped with lasweapons...I think there would be special advisors doin the special thinks to that troops, but that is only the idea in my mind not found in references..

Thrownik In reply to ElysianTrooper [2013-01-13 08:41:56 +0000 UTC]

I'm asking becouse I'm writing fluff for one of my IG regiments from own system. I want make them as heavy infantry (in armours like carapace but lokking more like old armour) trained by officers from DKoK and Mordian IG
and yes, they'll be not equiped with lasguns but with a bit better bolt-action riffles (I <3 them)

ElysianTrooper In reply to Thrownik [2013-01-13 09:08:06 +0000 UTC]

I think there is all possible in that universe In the last novel from the ghost´s they use bolt action rifles again as snipers...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ElysianTrooper In reply to Packmaster [2013-01-13 08:35:48 +0000 UTC]

There still missing the ripped (maybe cooling) section at the barrel, handguard carrier/handguard, upper cover of the housing, targeting items, fixing for the carrying strap, connection carrier between barrel and the second tube, etc..its some work to do at that piece....
