His upbringing in the Bachelor herd has left him mistrustful of others as a principle. But once proven they can be trusted, Kayden is loyal to his friends and would lay his life down for them. He does this mostly for himself, since it allows him to draw conclusions on those around him while still seeming at ease. After he becomes friends with someone his behavior doesn't change much, but it becomes more personal in a way; teasing with strangers means he's making fun of them, teasing with friends is a way of showing his affection.

Kayden knows the stallions that had run him out of the herd had intended to kill him, and he would certainly be dead had he not managed to run away. He often has nightmares about this, and his biggest fear is seeing those stallions -or really any old herdmate- again.

"So basically my mom was the hottest mare 'round and she knew it too. Used it to her full advantage apparently. Got everything she ever f*cking wanted. Gems, praise, hot pieces of stallion ass, everything and anything. She was a lady of the herd too, never had to worry about getting pregnant. She drops a colt? Cool, maim its face, leave it for the slaves to raise, move on. She drops a filly? Cool, don't maim its face, teach it how to be a cold hearted bitch like her, move on. That's how she'd always done it, and that's how she was planning to continue. Cue my dad coming into the picture.
So my dad was this asshole from Olde who decided he had enough of their unicorn worshiping bullshit and left the herd to join the Bachelors...Yeah, I know, he wasn't exactly the sharpest rock in the stream; that he was sexist as hell and would be in at least the top ten in a 'worst father ever' competition. But I digress.
My dad was also apparently a sight to behold, 'cause my mother practically threw herself at him the moment she could, and he obviously accepted her advances. And that my friends is how me and my siblings (well some of them. mum was a whore) were born. Any questions? Yes? Don't care, moving along..."

"It Gets Worse Trust Me" (birth to ten years)
"Of my full siblings I was technically the second born, but my 'older' brother -the poor bastard- didn't survive his facial maiming. It apparently got infected, making him weak; though he didn't die until he was nearly a year old. But anyway I was born and immediately was thought to be some sort of devil spawn by my father. I don't particularly blame him though, I do look pretty damn weird; what with the mismatched markings and freaky eyes and all. Mom was the voice of reason and basically told him to just maul me already or she would do it, and that's how I got my scar. The first time.
You know I'm a firm believer in giving credit where credit is due. I was a f*cking trooper, like kudos to you little me; you fight that fight. Needless to say I survived the scarring with flying colors. It was completely healed by my first year, and about that time was when I got two little siblings; Jupiter and Juno. Yeah, my parents weren't too creative on the naming front. So these two little monsters started wanting to hang around me all the time, and sometimes I would give in and play with them. It was pretty nice for a few years. But it got worse..."

"My father started wanting to 'show me the ropes' of Bachelor life. Me, being the little shit I was, was like 'haha good one pops, but nah' which was met with violence of course. And so little me went along with it. That's when I really started to get to know my herdmates; both stallion and mare. I would often sneak away from my family -now complete with two new siblings, though only one of them was dad's; he had no clue of course- at night to visit the broodmares. They were a hell of a lot nicer, and stronger if I'm being honest. Through them was how I came to realize exactly how flawed the herd was, but despite this I was still caught up in it; I was born into it, can you blame me?
And so when I started my training to be an infantry stallion, I threw myself into it. I had always been a bit on the small side, and I just didn't have the pure strength of my father, and I felt like this was some way for me to prove myself. Yeah, that worked out just great.
It was also around this time when all my friends in training with me were talking about the fillies and mares of the herd and who they wanted to mount come their seventeenth year. I went along with it of course, even if I didn't feel nearly as excited as they seemed. That's when I noticed him. He was quiet, standing a bit away from the group, looking absolutely done with the conversation at hand. One eye roll from him, a stomach flip from me, and I was moving over to stand beside him. I don't remember now what exactly we talked about, but do remember he was in my dreams that night. His name was Aiden.
Aiden and I became friends in record time. I think we had all the other colts' heads spinning with the speed in which we practically abandoned hanging out with them to spend time with just each other. Aiden was perfect. We could spar, or go for a walk, or just graze and talk and he always knew just what to do or say; he always looked so amazing. I told him one day that I thought I was in love with someone. The bastard asked 'who is he?' I think I might have stood there with my mouth open for forever if he hadn't pressed his muzzle against mine,
'I love you too' he had said..."

"Aiden and I had made a sort of pact with a friend of ours, a mare, that on our seventeenth birthdays we would choose to mount her, but request to do so in private. I don't think I need to go into detail about what really happened 'behind the scenes'. A year after that and Aiden and I were done with the herd, we planned to get married, then run away that night; not even returning to the herd.
That evening he and I snuck away and preformed the wedding ceremony that bachelors often used; even if its illegal as hell. We decided to make the carat marks as big and obvious as we could, I believe my exact words were 'let's make this shit as big as possible', to spite the herd we were supposed to be leaving behind. Key word 'supposed'
We had been almost done when we were found, and the four stallions who did find us were f*cking pissed off. They attacked us and had us held down, I looked over at Aiden...He...He fought free, he turned to me...He called me a 'mare-stallion'- said- said I forced him into this- said- he-....
He saved his own damn skin is what he did. I like to think he never loved me. Makes it easier...
The stallions proceeded to beat the shit out of me. They would have killed me had I not gotten lucky and managed to run away. Before that though, they'd marked my face to make four crude diamonds.
And that's how I got my scar the second time...
I ran as far as I could go, then I waited for the land bridge, and then I ran again. I kept running until I couldn't anymore and I collapsed. A member of the Exile herd found me and they all helped me regain my health. It's the least I can do to stay with them and help them for what they've done for me.
Compared to Bachelor life, I'm in heaven. I just wish I could let go of the past..."
