i hate seeing black women with straight hair. It's extremely unnatural. This picture is beautiful but when i look at it i see an insecure woman afraid to show her true self because of what society deems normal. If she's a real white woman with dark painted skin then, my bad still a nice photo.

Im a black women and i straighten my hair not because im insecure or because of society but because my hair is nice straight. Just like its nice curly. Just like how white women with straight hair will make it curly or make it straight if it is curly.
Some people have to make everything a race issue when sometimes no, it has nothing to do with race. Its fun to change your hair style/colour. No one should feel guilty about changing their apperence for fun and it be called 'extremely unnatural'

You're right. I just feel like relaxing natural curls is a little extreme is all.

People perm their hair and relaxing isnt something that straightens your hair forever. Its a different hair style, its silly to say "You are black therefore you SHOULD have curly hair" like your only black as long as you follow the guide lines.

Im pretty sure the hair is fake and the skin is painted. But what's wrong with black women with straight hair? It's more manageable, and there's nothing insecure with liking a differnt style than your phenotype. Many white people like tanning.

I understand where you're coming from. All of my family members on my moms side have relaxers and when ever i hear them talking about it all i ever hear is them talking about how they hate their hair and want it straight. So maybe it's just my family, but growing up hearing so much insecurities concerning natural hair i can't help but feel like a lot of women with relaxers are insecure about their hair. Personally i feel like skin tanning is on a totally different wave length than relaxing hair.

Why do you consider it different, just curious.
I feel that relaxing, tanning, shaving, body mods and the like are just in the group of ways people form their body to match their own ideal. Not as much of an insecure, "I hate my body" , but as something they like better.

When you put it that way i guess it isn't very much different, I really don't remember why i thought it was. But yeah, you're right as well. I can see where you're coming from.

Because people can't wear wigs for fun.
Okay.

What she said, though not terribly relevant, has a stunning amount of truth behind it. Since you're of lighter skin, it probably went over your head.
The idea is that black people are constantly made ashamed of their natural hair and seek refuge via straightening their hair or wearing a wig. There's a difference between wanting to try something else and being pressured into trying to look a certain way.
Since this woman isn't black, though, it's totally invalid.

I'm pretty sure she is black. Look at her features.

Makes sense, but with the picture being titled "Inversion," I'd assume it's a lighter-skinned woman with darker hair.
Otherwise it's not much of an inversion at all...

Relax dude, you didn't have to reply to my comment if you didn't have anything meaningful to say towards the topic.

But it was meaningful. You think they're trying to live up to a standard, when in reality, wigs are often worn for photoshoots for effect purposes.

This may sound super race/politics/blah blah but my issue with the title of "Inversion" is that it suggests she SHOULD look white with dark hair. But I think she's beautiful dark with light hair. I know you probably didn't mean it that way. It's a fantastic image and piece of art work.... but yeah. That's my ethnic issues two cents.

yeah i kinda got the same impression, because i'm sure if there was a picture of a white woman with dark hair we wouldn't call it "inversion" but now I understand it was more inspired by an inverted image but still, it kind of plays on what's 'normal'

Thanks, yeah it def wasn't meant that way. It was inspired by the look of an inverted image.
