Description Genesis 3 :1-5
Project for a teaching in our church. Nice to be able to use a slightly comic booky style.

I don't interpret the Bible literally, but I've always imagined that if the creation account(s) were\was in fact literal history rather than metaphorical parable, then the serpent would've looked like a majestic and regal Chinese dragon.

Good thought!Β  I considered that myself but, my problem there is that in a lot of Chinese lore, the dragons are more benign to man.Β  That's kinda why I went with a more Western dragon, since mythologically speaking, they've been more historically ambivalent and antagonistic toward man.Β

Even then, it'd make more sense to have the dragon look beautiful and regal. I doubt Eve would've trusted a creature as scary and evil-looking as this.

First of all I wish to say, what picture is amazing. Indeed before God cursed him, it has legs and hands.Β But I think what this guy is too huge for snake

Well...you may be right.Β  I was aiming for something more komodo dragon sized.Β  I might not be exactly to scale.

This is good stuff. I can't imagine what church is using this for teaching though. I get kick back on basic bible stuff like Isaac getting sacrifice.

Seriously?!Β  It's a small non-denominational church, with apparently, liberal views on art(thank goodness).

Epic!!! Β I love it. Β This is the first time I've seen the serpent presented in a way other than a little garden snake. Β The overall atmosphere in the background really adds to the mood.

Thank you, I've always thought of the serpent as something a little larger, (with the legs and all ),Β  something that foreshadowed the dragon in Revelation.

I read some of the writings of Josephus (a Jewish historian) and from what I remember, Jewish tradition teaches that the serpent did have legs. It lost it's legs when God cursed it to slither on it's belly. Β Who knows if that is actually true or not, but it does spark creativity in the imagination.
