Description
I drew this quite a long time ago, but I have just colored it.Quoted from Encypledia of Arda:
In the one hundred and thirtieth year of the Third Age, Celebrían the wife of Elrond bore twin sons. Dark-haired and grey-eyed, only those that knew them well could tell them apart. The first of the twins was named Elladan, 'Elf-Man' as a token of his ancestry; the second one was named Elrohir, meaning 'horse-lord'; they were descended not only from the royal houses of the Noldor and the Sindar, but also from the Houses of Hador and Bëor of the Edain.
Many centuries later, the twins' mother Celebrían went on a journey into the south to visit her own mother, Galadriel, in the land of Lórien. In the Redhorn Pass, she was captured by orcs, and tortured in their dens. Elladan and Elrohir rode to rescue her, but by the time they reached her she had received a poisonous wound. Though their father healed her, she would not remain in Middle-earth, and sailed into the West the following year. After this loss, Elladan and his brother Elrohir were filled with hatred of the orcs, often riding against them with the Northern Dúnedain.
In the early part of the War of the Ring, the brothers' main role was to scout the land and prepare the way for the Fellowship, but later they took a more active part. When Halbarad rode to Aragorn's aid with the Grey Company, Elladan and Elrohir accompanied them. They followed Aragorn through the Paths of the Dead, fought with him at Pelargir, and took part in the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, where they fought with stars bound to their brows.
After the War of the Ring, little is known of the brothers' fate. They returned to their father's house at Rivendell, and remained there even after he had passed across the Sea. Like their sister Arwen, the sons of Elrond Half-elven were granted the choice of whether to leave Middle-earth for the Undying Lands, or remain there and become Mortal as Men. The brothers had such a bond with each other that they must surely have chosen alike, but what choice they made in the end can never now be known.

They are LOVELY. I like the coloring, and their expressions, and their hair, and pretty much everything about them! The ring...and the sword...so, um, who's who? I can't really tell them apart.

wonderful! simply wonderful! however i pictured them with more of a childish expression that said: "i just did something i shouldnt... OR haha i wouldnt go in that room if i were you..." its rumored they were Imladri's biggest pranksters. if not in the whole elven world! haha, but other then that, its wonderful. FAV

I have read many fanfictions were they are depicted as the pranksters ^^But reading the Lord of the Rings they do not look childish at all! I think Legolas looks more childish in the books.

hmm, leo looks very young to me, and i guess the twins were always serious during the events that are available to us. however i still sense an air of mischief about them. -sigh- i wish there were more good fanfics out there. i fear mine will end up being weid.

OMG they look so perfect! Not as old as Elrond, not as young as Arwen, not too sad but with that Elvish "peacefulness". XD
the Twins FTW! hope they rock up in the Hobbit movie somewhere...
wish there was more about them in the books & the sil

it's a pity we didn't get to see them in the lotr. maybe a cameo in the hobbit to compensate us?

they're so pretty. You captured them in such a lovely way - i love the fact that we've given them a place even if peter jackson chose not to - poor boys.
love it

I love Elladan and Elrohir so much! I wish they had been in the movies, as they played an important part (with the Dunedain) Thank you for making this, this brings joy to my heart!
Sometimes I wonder what their choice was. I think that they may have gone to the undying lands with the rest of their kin, but then they could have gone to the Halls of Mandos with their sister and brother (aragorn). I suppose its just one of those mysteries.
Do you think they'll be in the hobbit II, when Aragorn is growing up? They played an important part in his upbringing, and I have always believed that he had given them hope to heal scars of past years.

I would like to see them in The Hobbit, since we couldn't enjoy their presence in LotR, but I doubt they will be there, if the didn't make it to the trilogy. It still would be nice to have them in The Hobbit or its sequel.
I started to write a piece of fanfiction some time ago (in Spanish) about the choice of Elladan and Elrohir ^^ it has a tragic end, mind you

gongjins In reply to EmberRoseArt [2008-05-02 00:36:42 +0000 UTC]
It would be, but one of the best things about fanfiction is that we can make them places they werent. Although its not a movie, its the next best thing i suppose.
I would love to read it, although I can't read spanish. I think that both choices will have grief, but in Valinor, I also think that they can all be reunited. I don't think that it should be considered a bad thing to be in either Mandos halls or in Valinor. Although it is terribly sad at the same time.

They looks so cute how you've drawn them!
I've wondered this for while but when the Elves sail to the undyinglands are they sailing to their deaths? I've only recently got into the LOTR so i was hoping you could answer my question.

EmberRoseArt In reply to Deadly-Elegant [2007-09-03 08:02:50 +0000 UTC]
they are not sailing to their deaths, on the contrary, they are sailing to an undying life The Undying Lands (also known as The Blessed Realm or Aman) are a beautiful place where the Valar and Valier (you could call them Gods and Godesses) dwell.
One of the Valar (known as Mandos) is entrusted to keep the souls of those elves who have died into his Halls, until after a time those souls are granted a new life; but those elves cannot return to Middle Earth: they must stay in the Undying Lands.
Galadriel (from LOTR) used to live in the Undying Lands. But she (among a large group of Noldor Elves) were exiled from the Undying Lands. They were later forgiven, but most of them (like Galadriel) didn't want to go back there (mostly out of pride), 'though in the end they all sailed away.
If you want to know more about the undying lands, you should read The Silmarillion, along with The Ainulindale

Thank you.
I was always confused about that.
So then, it is possible to go back and forth between them?
I will have to have look out for those books now as there is much more I want to know now!
Thanks again.

at first it was possible, but after the exile of the Noldor Elves the Valar made the road to the undying lands more difficult, so the elves who arrive there cannot go back to middle earth

I love them. They appear so few times, but I still love them.
I like the way you portrait them, they look calm, and... proud (I don't know the exact word :s) and more deadly, if you can say, in that aparent gentleness.
Colors are great and I really like sword's design.

The pose the two take is done beautifully. The expressions on their faces is stunning as is the difference in their hair. The differenence in clothing is beautiful also. An amazing piece of work. The colouring adds such a touch to the image too!
The description you've given of their lives is another amazing touch too.
I hope the best for you.

well, as I told in another comment, the pic in Illusion Cave isn't mine. This one I drew it myself with pencil and black pen and then colored it with The Gimp, using the other as model. I didn't just pick up the one in that website and color it, I assure you

I have to admit, this is not the normal style of art that I view. But I like the composition and details, as well as your interpretation of these two characters. I think they look very similar, which is obviously perfect, and the interaction between the two as they look upon the blade of Elrohir is very well done. There's an ethereal-ness to the piece, that seems to portray the two during more peaceful times -- something we don't ever get to read about. Lovely work!
