Description
This is my old photoshop tutorial for creating fire and flames without using a tablet. It uses the smudge tool. I also go into depth on how to change the colors to make whatever color flames you want!I have more tutorials and art lessons on my site Emerald Angel Comics with more to come!
I've made some brushes based on my tutorial! Chrissy's Fire PS Brushes
Used my tutorial to enhance this masterpiece. Surreality

I do not, but I made some flame brushes you can use. I have not used photoshop or any of it's counterparts in a long time. I use Gimp and Clip Studio Paint now

Is the white flame on a different layer with a transparent background? The white must be mixed with black to create a gray gradient. So the white and black have to be on the same layer. If you put the white on its own layer then there will be no gray areas to color.

Used a motion blur with this technique making it look like a character was shooting fire out of her hands, giving more color to the flame with the smudge tool. Excellent combination.

Thanks so much for this! It's a simple tutorial with a great outcome. ^^ This is much easier to do than try and fail with a slew of fire brushes.

Thanks. I'm so very glad you find it helpful. It is much easier to do than try to use someone's brushes. And, you can make the fire look however you want with whatever colors you want. Thanks for the comment.

lol, troll art is amuzing in moderation. Your tutorial was helpful, but my tablet lags like crazy so it doesn't work too well for me. Oh well, mouse it is then. Thanks for making it!

You know, it's not too hard to do with the mouse either. So, it's easy for tablet-less artists too. (I is one of those) ... heehee
