So what is The Caldera exactly? Is it like a story?

I thought the Nandi Bear would be more hyena-like or cat-like with one eye.

This looks like a mandrill. Presumably the Females live in a tightly-knit hoard with a leader male, some follower males and multisex juveniles. The lead male sires 80% of the young, the other 20% are sired by follower males and males from other groups. Every few years the leader male is replaced with a new male. Unlike baboons, female mandrills can side with or oppose a male depending on how he treats them.

This sounds like a very reasonable assumption for their group dynamics.

At least The Caldera's version.

Interesting. Is there any reason to why this version is a primate?

The one who commissioned it. I'm not entirely sure the lore behind which species he chooses for which cryptid.

I think it's only known from skulls and teeth so it's really not in much pop culture stuff.

You'd think more people would use it. A giant baboon is scary as shit.

Baboons are fierce, mandrills are actually quite gentle animals.

Right? normal sized baboons are already very intimidating. This one has a fair deal of speculative evolution so it's not an accurate restoration of an actual Dinopithecus. They were still about twice the size of a modern baboon.

There might be a couple more, but I think this is the last of the main ones.
