Description Funny thing about rediscovering a movie you used to love (especially when said movie dates back to pre-internet days), is that you get to explore all sorts of reviews and character analyses and fanfics that basically confirm what you've always thought - in this case, that people were WAY more invested in the doomed relationship between Uncas and Alice than they ever were in the main romance (sorry Daniel Day-Lewis and Madeleine Stowe!).

This is a quick doodle from a fanfic I read that goes into greater detail about how Alice got that one braid in her hair.  It coulda happened!!

Lovely concept and yesss, hooray for AlicexUncas! It was definitely more catching

I recently rewatched the movie as well. Its main advantage is the beautiful music (and the acting of Eric Schweig and Wes Studi), but in my opinion, neither the Alice/Uncas nor the Cora/Hawkeye romance gives such an emotional impact like that subtle, gentle affection between Cora and Uncas that was present in the book.

I completely agree with you that the book had the superior "romance", even though Hawkeye kept denying that it had any chance of actually working out (at least, that's what I remember - it's been years since I read it).  Regardless, in either format, there's no denying that Uncas was totally devoted to his lady love from the moment he met her.

Too true. I'm one of those for sure. It was a beautiful movie.

I'm not sure if it ages well, but it's still a great watch.   If it had been released now, the internet would be all over UncasXAlice!
