I seem to have made it my personal mission to get drummed out of the G.I.Joe fandom by exposing its girly, romantic underbelly and then building on it. As such, here is a thank-you drawing for skinnyjoefan , a longtime supporter who made a generous contribution towards the purchase of a new Mac!
He requested something from the episode “Computer Complications”, where Mainframe (a Joe) and Zarana (a Dreadnok) first meet and fall in love. Of course, since she’s in disguise and doing dirty work for Cobra, he learns her true identity only at the very end, stuff gets blown up, and the romance gets nipped in the bud.
Or does it? One always got the feeling that this revelation didn’t really seem to deter Mainframe as much as it should have - she’s an enemy agent, after all! And the final shot of them, miles away from each other, yet gazing up at the same moon, just screams “untapped storytelling potential!”. Now, I can’t see how this relationship could have worked out without one or both of them spending a significant amount of time in a federal prison, but I can’t help but feel that it’s really too bad that neither the show nor the comics developed this idea further.
