This one's over too ! Well, that is probably the end of the tutorial, so I hope it really helps ! There, I actually reached my limits in terms of technicals and skills So sorry if you find there are some bad quality sketches, I tried to render it the most accurate and good looking possible.
Here are some links to some other tutorials if you need to go deeper into some details :

Yeah, I'm actually working on my own comic and it has many reptile characters... I mostly draw people so I needed help creating different looking reptile characters.

I am quite comfortable in drawing both reptiles and dragons, but this was a wonderful tutorial anyway. It really comes up with some good points, and I am really happy that it's more of a pointer-tutorial than a step-by-step to draw one specific kind of dragon. Then it's really witty, and it surely inspired me as well! -scurries off to draw 2495674 dragons-

Heheh, I had a lot of fun drawing reptiles, but I'm afraid my dragons will stay winged puppyponies for a long time. It's not that easy when you grow attachted to them xD

And a wonderful follow-up to the first part! I am incredibly grateful for this, it does - as do you - a good job simplifying concepts that I might have spent who-knows-how-long deliberating over just to get a basis (I might still do that, but now I have a better sense of what to look for). And it's actually kinda fun just to read. Thank you!

Very good advice! But a sprawling posture is not to evade predators; many crocodilians today have no predators and most dinosaurs did. A dragon with lizard posture can be very cool, and in any case large real life lizards and crocodiles are capable of bursts of great speed.

EMP-83 In reply to Orionide5 [2014-02-07 15:18:40 +0000 UTC]
Never said the contrary Crocodilians use this stance to hide from their preys. This is one of the few theories about their posture shift from saurians to reptiles. Anyway, I said that these are just how I see this stuff ; in no way is it the only way to draw those.

Orionide5 In reply to EMP-83 [2014-02-07 22:51:02 +0000 UTC]
Any land animal, upright-walking or sprawling, can crouch down and hide. Felines crouch down before they attack prey. The real reason is probably due to energy. An upright posture saves energy when walking or standing for long periods of time, but uses more energy total. A sprawling posture uses more energy for standing or walking, but saves energy overall, and is better for swimming, burrowing and climbing. So if your dragon has to roam around, it should have upright limbs. If it spends its time lurking in a lair, it should sprawl.
