Completely new to the Union of Worlds Navy Core the Sabot class Destroyer is the Unions first true Destroyer design. The Unions doctrine never called upon the use of Destroyer type vessels, with the closest being the Bodkin Heavy Escort in the Peacekeeper fleet. Despite many of the Unions rivals using Destroyers (The Hydra class of Capitol for example) the nation did not take to them, relying on escort vessels and light cruisers to supplement Dart class vessels. However following the Draken war and the development of the new Horizon fleet HICOM laid down the specifications for a new class of warship, small and with a nightmarishly powerful armament the Sabot was born. Mounting likely the heaviest armament of any ship of its size and massively overgunned for its class the Sabot is designed for one role and one role only, capital ship hunting. With four inlaid hull Hyperfrequency lasers (The typical spinal mount for the Dart and other vessels) the Sabot can cripple or destroy a battleship with a single firing pass, and their use in squadrons only guarantees the targets demise. Armed with only light armaments for self defence the Sabot is powerless against other smaller vessels or groups of enemy ships, and so its deployment and numbers hinges entirely on its role keeping it relatively rare within the Unions fleet for now. Usually paired with Bolas which are also of the same hull type the Sabot has already proven its fangs against the Atu and Eos fanatics, the latter of which learned the hard way that massive dreadnoughts still have very much to fear of this small vessels firepower. Time will tell whether the Sabot remains a one off doctrinal change or a mainstay of the Unions new fleet.
